The Wallabies Thread

Unfortunately as neither Grey or Blades are with the Tahs next season it's one of two things:

A) he's joining the Wobs next season full time
B) he's stepping down

Hoping for B, expecting A.

Fox sports says it's A
Fuck me...name one coach the Aru/ state side has hired with meaningful runs on the board:
RG
T McGahan
Foley
Stiles
Thorn
Arnold
Grey
Anyone involved with our under 20s
Wessels (I could be proved wrong here and he has done alright thus far).

Compare this with the time NZ coaches have to serve... It's no wonder we are getting belted at every level. There would be more experience at the crusaders assistants than our Wobs panel

No he was moving when he caught the ball which helps to score, he doesn't have the explosive speed from a standing still position and he couldn't catch that nifty Italian back that scored

Yes he caught him but attempted the tackle too soon and fell off it from memory.

Gibson is taking the role of defence coach and head coach.

Will be interesting to see how the team becomes any different under that approach.

I think lots of people will be happy to see the end of the grey defensive patterns in 2018, including the players.

The italian 13 smoked him though.

did he? in the world of top speeds, it wasn't a long distance, campagnero had the momentum and Naivalu caught up but stumbled. Naivalu was a sprinter. Great top speed, but a little mass heavy now means he doesn't have quick feet. Naivalu probs has best top speed in wallabies, but there's probs a couple who can knock him off in the shorter stuff.

Cannot be A as he is not doing a good job at either the Wallabies or the Tahs this year. Why the hell do we need a press conference to announce either?
The support coaches are getting on board the self engrossed media train as well?
I'd guess B and he is off to OS.

It appears to be A. Crap.
While the Tahs are shaking up their coaching structure the Wallabies seem to be consolidating theirs. Why wouldn't they??
Are they lining him up to be Larkhams assistant after 2019?

Becareful what you wish for! If I remember correctly, the Reds sacked their defensive coach and Dick Graham took over that area in addition to the HC.... How'd that work out for us?

Why does a head coach need specialist coaches in every facet of the game anyway? What exactly is left for the head coach to do......

Weirdly enough I thought our defence was pretty good in the June series.

We conceded 65 points, of which you could attribute 28 directly to Wallaby attacking errors (two intercepts, a charge down and a knock/on from a high-ball). So you're then looking at 37 in three games, which is an average of about 12 per game. Even against shoddy opposition that isn't too bad.

The defense in the first two games was very bunched giving Fiji and then Scotland a lot of room out wide. It may not be reflected in the tackle stats but how many clean breaks were made against us?
I cannot remember Italy ever making an authentic clean break previously but they opened us up once or twice last week.

Did you read past the first line?

In a discussion regarding the team's defence, are intercepts and charge downs relevant?

Of course they contribute to the fact that the Wallabies are conceding too many points but points conceded isn't entirely linked to defence.

If you took an example from the NFL; if the quarterback throws an interception and the opposition returns it for a touchdown, the defensive team who at this point are sitting on the sideline because the offence is on the field don't get blamed for conceding points.
