In 2015 there were approximately 1691 Colts players in total playing in Sydney (U20 or U21 Colts)

1/2 the players "graduate to grade each year, so the Class of 2015 needs to produce about 800 players each year (of all skill levels) to "feed the machine".

There are usually less than 80 players from NSW of "elite" standard each year. "Elite" = NSW State I or II level or Combined States selection, including the unlucky few who miss out due to being in Team Rehab, or fall foul of the Selectors Gaze.
The other 720 players for Colts each year need to come from 9 AAGPS (1 Country) and 6 CAS Schools, 7 ISA Div 1 (2 Country) and 6 ISA Div 2 (3 country) Schools , and SJRU & NSW CJRU Village Clubs, plus the small number of ACT players that decide to go to Uni/TAFE in Sydney.

The point is:
1. The "usual suspects" don't just recruit schoolboy "Rock Stars".
2. Some Schoolboy "Rock Stars" in the usual suspects get passed by others without such impressive pedigrees.
3. Plenty of players who didn't get selected for their School Association Rep team were in the running for a Colts First Grade Premiership by making the Semi-Finals with their Colts Club.
4. Cream rises to the surface.
5. Don't give up if you were not selected for your School Association Rep team, or even the 1st XV at one of the "Big Rugby Schools".
6. Colts Coaches and Selectors care about current performances and form, and care little for what the opinion of another group of selectors at some point in the past was.

Coaches can have favourites. You need to accurately assess your skills and your potential. Ask people with knowledge you trust and who care for you to give their opinion. Then if the coach you have can't make the most of what you have then find another. Don't be a door mat for any club. Your career is short. However, if you just want to play social rugby with your mates. Then go where your mates are and enjoy yourself.
