I console myself with the fact that I and other G&GR members have helped to elevate his public profile.

As for "offer[ing] constructive criticism in an ironic or sarcastic writing", I have never tried it. It may be possible, I suppose. When I want to offer constructive criticism I write seriously, although when I do so I usually find it is a dialogue of the deaf. No one listens.

From sarcasm but reality is worse:
Player A whose is in rehab with his S15 team gets chosen for Wallaby duty. Wk 1 not fit, new injury Wk 2 should play Wk 3 but no and maybe get a game Wk 4 to justify being there. Would he not been better to recover from being injured on Wallaby duty.

My first reaction to seeing this thread was "who the bloody hell is Tony McGahan?".

I read the thread an find that he apparently has a job coaching the wallabies. A quick trip to google and I find that he likes to sit beside RD at press conferences and look serious without actually saying or doing anything.

A trip to google suggests that he was going to give the wallabies a more ruthless edge - whatever that means.

I think that they need help in scoring and constructing tries. Is anyone actually doing this? Why are they continuing chip kicks coming out of their own 22? We've been told countless times that "it's not in the game plan", why is it still happening?

I know that we are in the professional era, but is it really necessary to have so many assistant coaches? Do they talk to each other? The whole on field structure of their game seems disjointed. Are we playing a kicking/field position game, a ball in hand game, or a make it up as we go along game?

AFL and NRL teams seem to have 1 coach and that coach brings in people short term, where needed, to assist. I've never been in favour of multiple coaches. Certainly in the wallaby and waratahs settings, it seems to bring about confusion rather than clarity.

You are correct, NRL and AFL teams have lots of support staff. What they don't have is an attack coach, a defence coach, a restarts coach etc. They have a coach and he brings in ex-players, usually to assist individual players with specific skills.

I watch the Waratahs and Wallabies teams warm up and there seem to be a lot of different coaches giving instructions. I also go to a lot of league matches. No doubt who is in charge there, one person giving instructions and support staff holding pads, fetching balls etc. The difference couldn't be more marked. Lote and Wendell made similar observations comments when they returned to league.

AFL doesn't have dedicated attack/defence coaches because thats the nature of the game, the attack/defence is a lot more fluid...

But the NRL definitely has people who are set on these areas..

Yet again we find G&GR filling the void left by the mainstream media. Speaking of Google were it not for our efforts the man would have virtually no profile at all.

A Totality tee shirt would make a neat stocking filler.

Apparently the highlight of his coaching career is a 16-18 loss to the All Blacks. (enter Tony McGahan into google)

A Totality inflatable Tony would make a great T-shirt filler. And provide nearly as much input at pressers and such.

Perhaps he's learned from watching the Robbster "at pressers and such" that you're better to have people thinking you're a dill because you don't say anything than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It begs the question as to why he goes to press conferences in the first place. Surely no credible journalist would bother asking him a question. He has perfected the serious look though, but I think he needs to start nodding when RD speaks.

If he started nodding during Robbies Pressers, it would imply that he actually knew what gobbledogook RD was speaking about.

Another skill for TT's list of accomplishments - A Dingo Gobbledegook Translator.

He may then get asked questions by the Journos to translate the Dingospeak into plainspeak.

That was with Munster and no internationals as they where all away on duty, was a late try to win by the All Blacks. One of the best games of Rugby you can ever watch if you want to see a team throw everything they got at a side to come up short. Honestly is worth Watching.

Munster Also beat Australia under Tony McGahan

Bruce, brings to mind Albert Einstein's thoughts on the matter: "We all know that light travels faster than sound. That's why certain people appear bright until you hear them speak."
