I have not read this thread but make the following pithy observations.
First, apparently this thread relates to a SINGLE incident in the first game of THIS season. Where there is smoke, there is fire and whilst I admire Bruce's resilience in defending Tom Carter ( considered writing for Pravda, Bruce?), there is a long documented history of "TC" being a goose, presuming above his station, perpetuating Aussie male stereotype as loudmouth gobshites, both on and off the field. Don't ask me how I know, but other than watching him play umpteen games, I know. Lets also say he received some pretty decent training from those close too him but slightly older, in smarminess, apparently clever sledging and self-regard. Perhaps at least one Wallaby jumper before he earns the right to squeal and jump like a Banshee, groping whichever un/willing Queenslander's arse within arms length post-try. Or have I got things arse about face - is there a reason the ARU wont grant him a larger stage?
Second, TC is an average SRugby player. This isn't a sledge, especially given he has had to play outside the underwhelming, tackle-shy and generally limited D. Halangahu. Other than the tackle he missed that got Qld back into the game in Rd 1, he makes his tackles. He's a biggish lad so he rarely turns ball over and makes good ground on the run. He is physically resilient (unfortunately) and this is a redeeming feature in an oft broken Tah squad. He works hard training, including on his skills (not a troll). He doesnt make tactical decisions, mainly, other than vociferously encouraging McKibbin to kick downfield in the 79th minutes vs Reds.
Bottom line is I dont associate rugby with head/bum patters, squealing, sledging above station. its not rugby ethic and I can watch NFL for this (and excuse it as it is genuinely part of the culture).
School of rugby, school of life, gents. Would you want your first born son to conduct himself like TC?
