No love lost in 'derby'
Cape Town - A few familiar faces will be found, but no love will be lost when the Springboks take on geographical neighbours Namibia in their third Pool D clash on Thursday.

The close proximity between the two nations may only be limited to their respective GPS co-ordinates, because the gulf in rugby class is clearly evident, the Springboks – two time RWC champions, Namibia – yet to win a single RWC match.

However, there is a connection of another sort that draws these two teams together, with many of Namibia’s squad playing for various unions in South Africa.

Flank, Jacques Burger was contracted Griquas and the Blue Bulls before moving to Saracens.

Wing, Danie Dames had stints at the Sharks and Leopards, while Raul Larson is a product of Grey College. Nico Esterhuyse, Hugo Horn and Piet van Zyl were all involved in Boland rugby at some stage.

Loose-forward, Rohan Kitshoff can still be found at Western Province after the RWC, where many of the current Springboks can be found, including Juan de Jongh.

De Jongh also has another close friend in the Namibian ranks, wing, Llewellyn Winkler played for the Maties during de Jongh’s time there during 2008 and 2010.

“Llewellyn is a friend of mine from Stellenbosch and Rohan and I have trained together at WP already. It will be very nice to be able to play against them. We will be friends again after the game,” De Jongh told Tuesday’s Die Burger.

The Springbok backline squad is one abound with versatility as De Jongh has found himself playing at wing at times this season, but reveals that inside centre was not always his favourite position.

“In the earlier years I always played at outside centre, but the more I play at inside centre, the more I enjoy it. It’s all about making the best out of a situation, depending on where I get selected.”

Although he finds himself on the bench once again, De Jongh says that he will always be ready if he is called upon.

“If you get the opportunity, then you must be ready to grab it. We all prepare for the game as if we going to play. I am even grateful if I only get a few minutes to play, because many players have never had the opportunity to play in the RWC.”

Regarding the Frans in 12 pick I like is that it will bring out the best of Jean de Villiers. He'll know he have some work to do plus we'll have a serious bench going forward.

But the indications are that Steyn will get the nod, with the Capetonian set to be utilised as an impact player.

"It's fantastic to be in such a position. Just think, once you have broken down that wall and you bring Jean on from the bench with all his pace and initiative. That's exactly how our substitutes bench should look. If you have players like Danie Rossouw, Willem Alberts, Bismarck du Plessis, Francois Hougaard and Jean on the bench - it is something exceptional."

The coach believes no other country has the luxury of being able to send on such a strong bench.

Boet we come a loooong way with Snor. Really pitty because you are so negative about him, not even results could turn you over. Real pitty.
By the way the Kiwis love your man hate for him. So carry on, he is planning their down fall from the kas, currently they are to busy laughing at Deans and the Wallabies to care a shite about our man Snor from Paarl..

I think it was more of a comment on your willingness to bring the colour of a persons skin into the conversation. Which is pretty much unacceptable in this country. Nor is implying that someone else makes judgements on a persons character based on the colour of that persons skin.

Well I ask him about his reasoning after the usual Muppet shite this type want to throw around. Let me colour the picture for you. Back in 2008 and 2010 till now its muppet alla TSF shite plus old age players. 2009 when the Bokke won everything it was the senior players coaching the team. Bet you my house if we win the WC now , they still wont be satisfied and wont give the coach any credit. This sound pretty muppet like alla Keo and his mountain goat gang or probably he wants Meyer. Have no respect for Bok supporters like that.

After Habana announced he'll stay for another year at the Stormers, he become the biggest tries scorer for the Bokke passing Joost record of 38. Jac Fourie will push him with his 32 in future.

...amazing what a couple of wins over Fiji and Namibia can do for the confidence of some supporters! We are still a long way from winning the World Cup boet! If the Boks go out in the quarters will you still be satisfied with PdV's performance? Let's not forget that we finished last in the Tri-Nations by a considerable distance in 2010 and 2011, so if the 'Grand Plan' of winning the World Cup doesn't pay off, what do we have then?

After Habana left Pretoria for Cape Town he left all form behind and never recovered. Turns out he made a pretty bad move. Never looked happy.

Well I qoute if, perhaprs you need it in capital letters? IF we lose Snor will be defnitely fired and Blou can have his joy and say he was right all along for 4 years.

Who were the alternatives?

Plenty of young talent but this is not the time to select a bolter from nowhere. Purely on form there are two or three other guys in the CC who could have been chosen.

Kirchner for mine is solid and dependable.

Anyway he won't play at all unless Lambie goes down. Aplon should never play 15 again for the Boks. He was terrible on tour this year.

Selection makes sense. He has done pretty well and defends well. Has even had to play 13 for the Boks and defended well against the Irish.

Seriously, if anyone expected a selection of someone who has never been in the system you are dreaming. No top side will bring a bolter in as a replacement.

I'll acknowledge my bias but I have the feel we are going into the Rassie era with the "Burger Bekker" show after WC 2011. Wont mind Alistair Coetzee with him.

I personally believe Heyneke Meyer deserves first shot at the job (if he still wants it)

Still early days, so I dont think anyone has been name seriously in the running for the job...

The usual suspects...

Nick Mallet - Yes please

John Mitchell - Maybe we could do with some Aussie mentality

Allistair Coetzee - Done wonders at the Stormers/WP but yet to win anything? No BMT or X factor.

Rassie - Not just yet - 2019 RWC please :p

Naas Botha - A personal pick :yay

p.s I am semi new here, please don't hurt me
