If the clubs do not generate enough income to support full time staff they should not have them. It's that simple.

Great idea, let's close all the clubs down. That'll fix the game.

EDIT: I'd have thought that 4 grade teams and three colts teams for a full season was pretty good bang for $28,000 though.

Correct, because even a body as dense as the NSWRU worked out that having a paid person running each club was good for the game. 15-20 years ago the NSWRU used to give clubs specific grants; there were funds allocated which had to be spent on a General Manager, funds allocated for a development officer, funds allocated for colts and funds allocated to the club for running costs.

If the market demands the clubs, the market will get the clubs. The problem is that the clubs haven't managed to expand their revenue base (membership/sponsorship/grog sales/whatever). Either that's due to mismanagement across the clubs, or people just aren't interested in club rugby outside the hardcore supporters.

The clubs need to be able to run themselves. If that means they're run as fundamentally amateur operations, then so be it.

The view of anybody with an SS club logo on the right hand corner of their posts seems to be that the Shute shield is the be all and end all of club rugby in australia when actually it and it's clubs are a very smelly percentage of the rugby population.

Club rugby is great. It extends WELL beyond 12 clubs in the greater Sydney region. Remember that.

We separated the juniors and the seniors some years back and played under the same club logo and colors but established different commitees and finances. The juniors thrived and the seniors came back on their knees begging for reunification. The juniors had enough fund raising clout that every players insurance and fees were covered in full and the juniors could tour at no expense. We had kids from all over the community playing for us. The rugby club was a safe place for them (many of these kids had shit family lives) and we were able to establish good relations with the public school next door with access to the school bus and such so everybody could get to game day.

Shit it was a good set up. Those days are long gone though.

As i have said, support the clubs maybe a more economical what of feeding the grass roots.

And while your sitting in your $200 bledisloe cup seats convincing your mates what a rugby supporter and afficianado you are who's supplying the cannon fodder for your entertainment.
If you think this game is about what's on foxtel, league might be a better bet.

These threads are full of the stats.
How many kids straight out of school sign with a s15 franchise? Maybe 3 per season.
What do you think the rest do?
Sit at home waiting for graham, foley or Cheika to ring?
They go and play shute shield or premier rugby. Hell, some even play colts in this clubs.
Do you think every oz school kid gets an immediate gig in s15? The truth is that the overwhelming majority never do and that there are more non oz schools/state reps in s15 and above.

That does not disprove my comment at all Dave. Running coaching sessions doesn't pay for the lights.

I wonder what will happen post 2015. The aru broke or very close to it, to player exodus likely. Furtherr drop in Fox ratings for super rugby and the big one, noomitted finding for the NRC. Fox have been reported as wanting out already and Ten isn't interested.
I must say the proposals for the expanded Super comp doesn't appeal much to me and I was very underwhelmed by most of the NRC. I think the NRC will cease to exist simply through economics and the fact that nobody cats enough for these sides to fight for them as they do their club. I hope the clubs can survive next year and the wreck of 2016 because maybe things can improve from there.

That's a sweeping (and incorrect) generalisation.
