Super Rugby needs a finals overhaul. The trans-continental travel in 1 week is just a joke for a finals match. One team deserves home advantage sure but not this kind of advantage. I don't have a solution and it's tough to think of any but it can't keep continuing, like Jake said what's the point of playing?

Geez Waiopehu, Toomane was born in Levin, according to some info sites on the net he was supposedly born either Wgton or PN, but he was definitely born in Levin, used to work at same place as his his Dad & uncle at Levana. Think young Toomane may of played at Logan rugby club as did To'omua who was at Logan until secondary school days!!

If Jake actually said that, he should be fired as a coach!! If coach thinks that what chance of players believing they can win. Why do losing coaches have to come up with this when it happens often in International rugby!!

Knew about the Logan connection but not the Levin one. ESPNScrum gives his POB as P-North but that's a mere 10-15min from the Opiki bridge & if Manawatu can claim our Gary Knight on the basis of someone at MRFU renting a P O Box in his name, we can sure as shit claim anyone whose Dad & Uncle worked at Levana Textiles.

If he was being in any way serious, and not a complete fucking pillock, then he would have concentrated on beating the Cheetahs and Stormers and guaranteed himself a home semi and a home final. He chose to be a stupid old c**t and paid the fucking price.

Stupidest moment of the game that I saw - Sharks form a pretty good maul, and drop the ball. The bloke at the tail picks it up again and tries to continue the maul. Fuckwit.

Suck it Sharks - fire your fucking coach, and maybe hire Naka Drotske or someone who wants their team to play rugby.

Tomane was definitely born in Levin itself Waiopehu actually one of the last kids to be born before Maternity home was closed I think, hell I read in paper in Italy that my son was from Wellington, and I suspected then perhaps papers/websites etc just go with places they have heard of. Yep Tomane's parents came here mid 90s.

I don't know about rubbish, but they've had some pretty ordinary performances this year. At the half way mark (round 10) I had the Hurricanes and Chiefs as the top two NZ teams based on quality of play. Then there was the game against the Sharks in round 15 where I thought they were super average.

Yet to watch the semi tape but there needed to be a whole lot of improvement from where they were and those three players would do that; particularly Carter, because their centres were looking dreadfully off-song with Crotty and Fonotia.

I'm kind of taking the piss but yes, they were dire up to about round 10. Amazing difference those three players make. The pack has woken up though. Their scrum and breakdown work was poor up until a few weeks ago.

Peaking at just the wrong time foe the Tahs, especially with the game being played at what is almost a neutral venue.

I don't think it's as big a problem as people are making out. This is actually the first year under the new format that there hasn't a team winning an away semi on a foreign continent - Crusaders beat Stormers in 11, Sharks beat Reds in 12 (and then beat Stormers after going back to SA), Brumbies beat Bulls in 13.

I think all the people in this thread who make light of West to East travel have either not done it enough themselves or they are of those select few that do not feel the effects of long haul travel and jetlag.

For anything up to 7 days when I return from GMT time zone I am pretty stuffed.

You simply cannot perform at your peak. Add to that the pressure of a knockout game in someone else's back yard and it becomes real tough.

However, you should at least try to play some rugby, unlike the Sharks who should not even have bothered this year (last year they did though so wtf happened? The Reds were a few notches below this Crusaders team so maybe it was simply easier for the Sharks, especially the pack?)

To not recognize that it is a significant issue is either uninformed or ignorant.

I know it's fun to tell the Saffers to fuck off and stop moaning but it's not rocket science to see that it is a problem.
