Wow, what a great day at Merrylands RSL Club, and what a great venue!

Alan Jones is a great speaker (Alan was working without notes - I did not hear him say umm or aah once in a wide ranging talk that must have gone close to 40 minutes; I saw him talk to some of our Women players and not just talk to them, but converse with them. I may have to re-evaluate my personal opinion of Alan!).

Nick Farr Jones spoke well and with some brutal honesty addressed one of our failings, and of course Parramatta's favourite son, Two Blue Legend and Wallaby Eric Tweedale, the oldest living Wallaby, charmed everyone with his reminiscences. (I don't know if you have had the chance to hear Eric speak but if you are offered the chance, take it, you won't regret it!)

All speakers had pertinent points for all Two Blues to digest (some of which may have been less than easy to digest for some of us present). I for one was very appreciative of their honesty. We are a club on the way back, not a club that is already there. We can learn from those who who been in tough times before.

It was very pleasing to see Tony Melrose and Andrew Leeds at the lunch, both have given so much to the Two Blues over the years and nice to see AJ acknowledge this in his speech about players giving back. To be honest as a Pom looking at Australian rugby over the last 20 years, I am proud to associate myself with Parramatta Rugby and their history and even more so with the current coaching staff and committee. COYTB'S!

I actually thought NFJ was a bit ignorant/arrogant in relation to his comments about former players not being present. We have tried reaching out to those guys, especially the 85/86 teams on many occasions over the past 4 years, but they don't seem interested. The club has changed socially, demographically and culturally and I don't think that sits well with some who tend to influence others. Most no longer identify with the area or club and some have sons playing at other clubs. Thommo is organising Back to Parra Day, hopefully he has more success.

I too have heard AJ speak once and noticed his lack of notes and that he never tripped over his words once. Despite what some may think of him, the bloke can speak!
What failings was NFJ talking about? I'm getting sick of all our senior adminstrators talking about how fukced the game is but never tell us what they are doing to fix it. Pray tell did NFJ tell us what they are doing to address these failures?

No he was critical that we had failed to engage the support of former players and was expecting to see 4 or 5 tables of blokes from the 80's and 90's. As I previously said, we have tried very hard to get those blokes to take an interest but they seem to not care anymore.

The number of people that turned out yesterday for the club working bee was impressive.

Everyone from colts to the GM rolled up their selves and pitched in.

The ground looked fantastic........ Bring on 2014

The story in the Tele yesterday said it best, we are a Community Club that plays Rugby on the side. Yesterday we had Colts training from 9am, then they went on the tools for the clean up despite the promised lure of the sausage sizzle not happening because the BBQ was having 20 years of grime gurneyed off it. Every Colt was involved and many stayed past 4pm. A large number of the Womens team and some diehard supporters also put in the hours. The Grade boys arrived in the early afternoon to work on the clean up then put in a spirited 2 hour training session from 5.30. At 8 we all met at OneWorld Bar for Grading Night and over 200 of us just enjoyed being a club. The feeling of club spirit was very evident and regardless of what happens on the field, Parra is back.

and we have also secured 22 new sponsors for 2014! That's right, 22. This is not an embellishment at all. It is fact. Add that on the back of a strong financial performance for 2013 and coupled with the renewed Club Spirit, we are most certainly back.

And a tremendous amount of hard work by a small number of very dedicated volunteers (none greater than efforts of Ryan09) have been the vehicle behind that.

We won't be settling for competitiveness now either. We have the means and the drive to start climbing the Club Championship ladder and we are going to do so.

As an Eastwood supporter with great memories of playing against Parra in the sixties, and watching them since the fifties (Graham Galloway! Ivan Mann! Rod Phelps! Fab Fenton!!!).

I wish you all the best.

Success begets success, I hope you get a lot of it.

Don't think for one minute we haven't tried.

Perhaps though AD you might have more luck with Council upgrading their asset than we do.

Feel free to give this bloke a call and ask him.

There are change rooms there, though admittedly Gordon are one of the sides who choose not to use it and set up under the covers on the main seating.

Well you nearly got it with the election last year. What do you want me to say to him?

yes Belly, you're a handsome human on TV mate. What grade is TPN's brother playing this year?
If you had 250 blokes at training over recent weeks, does that mean you're fielding a 5th grade and will you be sending your surplus players to a subbies club nearby such as Merrylands? Will you also assist them with coaches etc?

250 would include a good 30-40 amazing athletic women - No 5th Grade for Parra but certainly 4 healthy grades..
