Apparently the Bulls B team are world beaters - they should get them in
No they are going to lose against the Stormers, but I would back them to beat the Lions, Cheetahs, Highlanders.
If that's the case, should SARU consider a draft to stop the Bulls warehousing talent? Serious question.

Salary cap anyone?

Hmm. I am a young player, approached by two Unions for my signature.

One extremely successful and professionally run Union with trophies in the cupboard and a winning tradition. It has great facilities centrally located, and I will play in front of a loyal crowd in a full stadium. There I will train along and be mentored by world class players, many the best in the world. I will learn from them, and hopefully eventually play with them and maybe even replace them.

Option B. I sign with a Union in crisis for the last decade. A coaching carousel, not to mention multiple players going to court to get out of their contracts. The stadium is in the middle of a ghetto, the training facilities an hour drive from there. No winning tradition, hell no winning, most players of note can't wait to leave.

What to do, what to do?

Can they at least move the stadium out of the ghetto? Seems like a good start...

I'll get some serious Lions supporters over here to explain the Lion situation.

Think Rusty underestimate the RooiBont supporters , tradition and culture a way bit. :nta:

when you say "us" you mean NZ teams right?

Cause, historically, when the Reds have played South African teams we've won almost 2/3rds of the time.

Don't waste space in this forum, PB. We don't need any type of Lions supporter to tell us that the Lions are shit.

Boet ja, but there are supporters like GMan that lives in Bobbejaansberg and still support their team and go every weekend to go watch them, we got two current Lion S14 players dads on the Protea forum , if you think they cant add value here, go live in lululand. Much better to get their view about their matters then getting the views about their game from SA Expats that have blue blood and think they know everything about Lions rugby.

I know you dont want them here but nevermind. :nta:

Interesting think the Lions beat your Reds in 2009 in Brisbane if my memory serve correct, but I have time and I'll go find out all the detail.

Pretty arrogant coming from Reds posters and try to be sarcastic about the Lions.

You seem to have got my point, PB :) I think you have a great idea there - please ask a real Lions supporter to give us some insight into the problems and possible solutions.

I am very interested in RSA rugby, not so interested in partisan views from within it.

Gotta go watch the Brumbies and Tahs!

It is up to SA how they handle their teams. We have our own stuff to worry about.

Is a merged super 15 team between the current Lions and the Kings/Spears a viable option playing half games in Joberg and half in Port Elizabeth? If not why? Just curious.

Nope it will never happen. SA have provincial borders and the provinces made the franchises.

If a S14 franchise want players, they'll have to contracted him, not 100% sure but we suppose to have a window period. Thats more or less the problem the Kings or any SA S14 franchise have, they'll have to get in the S14 to attrack sponsors.

This pissing contest is silly about who was worse, because right now there is none worse than the Lions for a while.

Fact is the Lions team are detiorating, and look like they are already worse than even the Reds were in 2007 - 2008. It is getting to the stage where the comparisons will come between the Lions of 2010 - onwards and the Bulls teams of late 90s / early 2000s, where the Bulls had seasons of zero/one/two wins and many, many floggings. The low point that I remember for the Bulls was when betting agencies suspended betting in a Crusaders v Bulls game, simply because there was no conceivable way anyone could see the Bulls winning - and indeed the Crusaders handing them a beating. 10 years later and the Bulls are the dominant team in the comp.

The question is, can the Lions improve the way the Bulls did? The Lions have problems that the Bulls didn't have. So can they be fixed? Will the Lions be competitive, as in not in the bottom 3, within the next 10+ years?

Serious questions, because right now I can't see how the Lions can be competitive within that time frame.
