Well I think it's a joke. An Asian world cup without an Asian qualifier, how ridiculous. Japan making the top 12 this year basically made no difference at all.

I'm all for supporting PI rugby, but Oceania shouldn't have 4 chances to qualify for the world cup when Asia has 1, and only through repechage.

Maybe they are allowing for Japan's automatic spot this time and it will change next time?

I hope they expand after 2019. Japan will be the fifth 20 team world cup, and we're probably ripe for expansion as long as the PIs don't implode, and the other Nations (Georgia, Japan, Romania, USA, Canada, Uruguay, Namibia) continue to improve. That'd give probably another European, Asian, African and American spot.

Not quite sure where to post this but lots of reports that Eddie Jones will be taking over as the next head coach of England.

Good luck to them.

Yeah good luck indeed. Good luck instilling a different game plan in England. Hopefully he can de-power their set pieces like he did ours!

I wouldn't bet on that. Looking at how he has learned and moved on and developed the Japanese game plan with the limitations they have physically I'd be pretty worried if Jones got the England job, if like he has with Japan he got the right specialist coaches.

Don't get me wrong I hated the game plan when he was Wallabies coach, and especially the homogeny of the team with little regard to the specialist skills was a dire mistake that has taken a decade to correct. However as much as I hate it and saw it as a mistake back then I also understood that Jones made a bet on how Rugby was evolving and went too far. Indeed the ABs are now lauded for the universal skills in the forwards and backs and the mode of play is similar to what Jones would have liked to achieve and could have if he didn't sacrifice those specialist skills.

I would love to see the Poms faces if Jones got the job on the condition he says "I get to choose my assistants, no arguments, no board input" and they agreed then he hired Dal Maso as scrum coach. That would be a laugh, an ex-French hooker coaching the English scrum. To top it off he could pick Justin Harrison to coach the lineout. Just imagine Austin Healy's Monday morning column. I''m laughing now just imagining it.

Can't wait to see Paarls response when he learns the Poms have nicked his new saviour.

Media reporting deal is done.

Gnostic, the reaction on Poms' faces will pale in comparison to the explosions in the media when our Eddie gets the top job. In fact I'd wager Eddie's proclivities for planting hand grenades with trusted journalists will be so disruptive they'll sow the seeds of his downfall. Good coach he may've developed into, however, he just can't resist the sly quote shivving a rival/competitor/commentator/rugby alickadoo. The yellow press in the Old Dart is quite vicious, they'll like him at first but it'll soon wear off.

In another case of not-fallout-but-still-moderately-interesting, Beckham quite enjoyed watching the rugby.

Becks told [the Times], "I love rugby - I love watching it and I love the whole thing. I have enjoyed going to Twickenham more than I have enjoyed watching football."

Unlike football, rugby matches were an example of "people sitting together with no nastiness", he said.

The 40-year-old said as a child he "felt uneasy" watching a live game between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Based on that, he seems to be talking more about crowd behaviour as opposed to the sport itself, but still.

Good start by Eddie there... Rumour mill suggests Gustard (Saracens) for defence, Borthwick for the pack (Bristol) and King (Northampton) for the backs are all being lined up.

I might be a bit skeptical of King given how the Northampton backs play but lets see how it all goes.

Edit: Borthwick is confirmed

Considering Eddie Jones himself hasn't commented on it I doubt it is true. Probably some journalists saw Eddie and Hartley talking when he visited Saints and are getting carried away.

For one thing he is currently crocked and isn't even playing, and two alot of people would rate either Cowan-Dickie and George as the best hookers in England at the moment, so he is hardly guaranteed a spot.
