With a bunch of threads popping up for Rugby Pubs, I figure we should put some rules around what makes a rugby pub, then build an Australia wide map.

I'd suggest the essentials to be a "rugby pub" are:
- fox
- big screens
- games shown with volume

Hopefully everyone can edit this map - note you'll need to be signed into google to do so:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=214094974036400726350.0004ac3b1b773382a3aa0

I've added in a few Sydney ones already. If a pub already has an entry in Google Maps then click their entry and click 'Save to Maps'.

If you add a pub, please write a short blurb about it in the comments to this thread. I'll combine them all into a wiki article when we're done.

The Newport Arms
Summary: The major sponsor of Shute Shield team the Warringah Rats, this Northern Beaches pub also boasts the biggest beer garden I've ever seen.

Coverage: Largest outdoor cinema screen in Sydney, watch the match with a spectacular view of Pittwater.

Drinks: 5 bars and many smaller "cans" bars when it gets busy. 18 beers on tap. Expensive.

Food: Good pizzas, seafood, burgers and nachos. Expensive.

Other: Great facilities for the kids with lockable playgrounds.

The Pacific Hotel, Yamba
Great food at a good price (it regularly makes it into the Good Food Guide)
Good range of beers.
In terms of watching rugby it is the best option. The local rugby side comes here after homes games.

Ruggo

Shinnanigans in Darwin. Great Irish pub and with it still backpacker season the atmosphere should be sensational. It also meets all of Moses criteria.

I added the Brekky Creek and Sunnybank Community and Sports Club. Both play rugby with the sound up. Brekky Creek may have some issues if the NRL finals are on so call first.

Interesting call as I'd rather be able to click on my city and see the pubs, but i'll roll with the punches and play by the rules!
East Brunswick Club - Melbourne
- Large open dining room with unfettered access to two large screens hoisted up on opposite walls.
- One big screen is directly above the bar, so if you're waiting for drinks you can still easily watch whilst trying to get the attention of the large maori bartender.
- One big long bar at the back of the 'dining' room - doesn't obstruct views - great selection of australian and kiwi beers.
- Large beer garden where ash trays abound, for those so inclined.
- Only had the Parma but it was bloody good
- for the bledisloe, it was absolutely packed with a good mix of kiwis and aussies.
- showing every single world cup game live

Have added the Normanby in Brisbane. Has designated VIP area set up for rugby fans and is also becoming Triple M's Clubhouse pub for the cup and they've got their own pub jerseys done up by Kooga for Prize giveaways. http://www.thenormanby.com.au/whats-on

Caxton isn't too bad either for pre-drinks and a 20m walk to suncorp. Provides good food, unfortunately volume isn't too loud depending on where you are located, but who can turn down a beer garden!

Edit: Service is good too, won't find many rival supporters there unless the Wobs are playing the Boks. Allowed to take the children in too, doesn't have much for them do to though so perhaps leave them with the grandparents

The Pineapple Hotel in Kangaroo Point. Various tv's showing the games with volume. It's a bit of a metal & concrete tomb out the back but renovated old school up front. Meals are ok but expensive & a good range of beers on tap.

Commonwealth Hotel in Cooks Hill Newcastle NSW

Big screen projector, volume, supports local rugby including my club, great food, friendly service, TAB, 4 blocks from foodie/coffee st Darby St. Rugby comes first on the big projector I found during the Super Rugby season, all other codes relegated to other areas.

I've started a thread on Regional/Rural Rugby pubs in Aus.

Not to mention Mojo Webb plays out the back on a Friday Night, definitely worth sticking around for!

In Melbourne:

Turf Bar - Cnr Queen and Bourke

College Lawn - Prahran / Windsor

Both as good a rugby pub as anything in Sydney...

Melbourne Terrace

Darby Loudon (17)
Charles Dickens Tavern - Collins St Melbourne CBD

It earns its reputation as a football bar and i've been there multiple times for the asian cup and WC qualifiers but i've also heard it's excellent for rugby, largely due to it's popularity with expats.

1 Big Projector Screen, 2 plasmas and the volume up.

Large selection of beers on tap (lot of imports) - decent prices
