I think we can agree its been a resounding success so far with Stan - i've been blown away by their coverage and the available viewing content they've secured so far.

The one big hole in the shift from Faux though, is rugby missing from TV screens in pubs and bars across the country.

What's the go? Why is there such an issue with pubs paying 3 schooners worth of beer sold in a month, to get the rugby up on TV screens in the pubs?

Is there some commercial rate that Stan charges, like Fox did, that costs more than $20 a month?

If not, how hard could it be to subscribe, and cast from a laptop to any of the TV's in the bar?

I have next to no understanding as to why it would not be legal to stream in a pub if the broadcaster has no issue with it. That seems extremely anti-competitive, to say the least.

You would assume they will create a product for licensed venues at some point.

Similarly, it is a completely different package for a pub to get Foxtel compared to a private household.

To watch the reds game long weekend I had to get some kid to work out how to air play my phone to a tv in a coastal pub i was in & i am in strong negotiations with my local irish pub to do the same when Lienster play but its killing me atm not being able to get a friday pint after work with the nz game on.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but with could V'landys be the one blocking the stan/sky channel deal from happening? he comes across as a slimey prick who do that.

Well yes, that is definitely a possibility but that is on an asset Tabcorp owns.

Stan clearly needs to get pubs onto the same streaming service (at a higher cost) because their path to access existing satellite services is essentially blocked.

All pubs will have broadband internet. It seems very plausible that Stan could be run through a Chromecast or similar without much effort.

I'd be surprised if Stan takes long to launch something.

I think you'd have to use someones stan app, when I did it I just gave my phone to a mate son who was there within our group we went away with & 5 min later he said its up on that tv there (he told me on good friday he could make it work he may have brought his apple tv I dont know).

I assume it would be a effort & the pub would have to actively want to bring in rugby fans rather than casual ppl having a beer with it on in the back ground

Stan are apparently chasing the A League and SportsFlick have dropped the Champions League citing the Super League fiasco. Though they did that pretty much on the same day it was announced suggesting they were looking for an out. Either way. It could help drive traffic and importantly interest from pubs to subscribe.

Clearly if he took the opportunity to cut the deal at the first sign of trouble. I've had the conversation with a few people who claimed they have the money but reading their brief statement they had a bank guarantee. So I guess they quickly realised they were going to lose money and get hammered by the bank and took the out. Not a good look for their platform.

This is currently illegal because it is against Stan's terms and conditions.

7.1 The Stan Service, the Software and any Content that you view via the Stan Service are for your personal and non-commercial use only and may not be made available to view in any commercial premises. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, personal and non-transferable license to:

1. access the Stan Service and view Content through the Stan Service on a streaming or Temporary Download basis (as defined below); and

If the rugby club is considered commercial premises then no, you can't.

This is entirely in Stan's court to fix. As I said previously you would assume a business and/or pub subscription isn't far away. I would guess Stan would need to make some changes though as this would just be limited to sport (at least for the licensed premises version). I don't believe they'd be able to sell their other content like movies to be shown publicly like that.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure the Foxtel licensed premises subscriptions only include sport plus potentially news channels.

Yes, they'll need to keep the price low, as there wouldn't be many pubs who are going to switch off the Fox subscription, this would just be additional. Do Fox or TAB provide the actual screens as well?

I think this is a situation that Fox is doing their best to block and/or discourage Pubs etc from playing it for spiteful reasons. But honestly, it's an issue, but not a major issue, currently we have one of two games that's FTA. The Grand Final will be on FTA. Obviously Super Rugby:TT will be a different issue but I don't think this is as dire as some people are making out, just buy a carton of beer or a bottle of spirits and have a few mates over to watch it.

I think it's a massive issue - people out for Friday drinks don't know it's on, we are losing (lost) plenty of supporters. Surely one of our key markets are people knocking off work in the city late on Friday & enjoy a beer. We need to do everything we can to encourage the casual viewer.

What about the local footy club who after the match head to the pub for speeches and have to watch NRL & AFL when there is a NZ match on.
