Carter is a good defender at 12 but IMO is not as good a reader of opponents play at 13.

No stats please.

Bring on the stats! (although I don't know where you are going to find stats to illuminate that point anyway - Carter doesn't miss many tackles, but the issue here is whether he is in the right place at the right time to tackle the right opponent - is there a "missed the point" or "lost the plot" stat we can use to compare players?)

Jacques Fourie vs Ranger. That's the one I want to see.

I want to see Ranger vs TPN.......crunch!

...and I am very pleased to see Horne at 13. Shame Carter doesn't get moved into 12.

Well according to foxsports...
Carter has made 50 and missed 5
Horne has made 13 and missed 1

Carter has played 415mins
Horne 87mins

I'm terrible at maths so am likely to be completely wrong....

But isn't that Carter missing more (as a percentage) than Horne...

Not to mention being in the wrong place at the wrong time...

sucess rates: carter - 91%, horne - 93%

tackles per 80 mins: carter - 9.6, horne - 12.0

not that it means anything mind you. i just feel like breaking a rule today O0

This is why I didn't want any stats. There are no stats on the effectiveness of reading defences. Nor are there any which count stuff ups when there have been chances or half chances on attack.

Making key tackles is key to a team's success but so is the other stuff. In the end we have to form our views on players based on observations.

Stats can be of interest, especially if a player is founding wanting in an area, but they are only a guide to a player's ability. And when stats can never be offered to cover important matters, the ones available can be a bad guide to a player's effectiveness.

Selecting Carter is about planning not losing a game

Selecting Horne is about trying to win a game
