OK its not Tahs but its effectively NSW rugby:

Check out the Chairman's Report on Page 2. He absolutely rips on (in no particular order):

- the IRB (for pissing about with the ELVs)
- old bastards ("purists")
- the S14 (for giving the Tahs a dud draw)
- Aussie stadium (for its staff)
- eastern Sydney in general (for its crap traffic).

Its a joy to behold.

That was a great report, and a great read. Couldn't have summed it up in a more upfront manner. Great work, if only you had something to do with International Rugby right now then we honestly wouldn't have a problem. That report represents the growing need for change within rugby. Permenant change, we've all discussed it. And I think we all know what will be achieved after RWC, when law changes will be given the go ahead. The only reason they haven't is because the IRB do not want to look stupid then they already are.

I'll say it again, for this game to go ahead successfully, the administration will need to undergo some very drastic changes. Full revamp.

Like the report a lot. Most of all I agree that going to the SFS is an extremely unpleasant experience.

I've been watching a lot of the NH stuff over the last two months and from reading their media I think they are pretty comfortable where the game's at except of course for the breakdown. However I don't get the impression that our NH freinds think that changing the rules is critical and we need to get used to that.

They seem to be filling stadiums over there. I guess what I'm trying to say is there is a huge gap in perception of where the game is at and until there is a NH outcry like we have in Australia we better find other ways to "save" the game. Rules changes ain't gonna happen soon.

Hopefully the Aus teams can fidn a way to make the thing look a bit more exciting becuase that's the only thing than will create some positive press.

Lot more people though Blue, and much smaller stadia generally. Offset with more games of course.

True but I think that supports my point. The things we worry about here arenlt that much of a concern for them for those and many other reasons.

If we assume that the rules are not goign to chahnge anytime soon then what?

Loved this bit:

We now revert to a contest of set pieces and penalty shootouts, mostly courtesy of the lottery known as the breakdown. With in excess of 20 offences that can be penalised at the breakdown, all you need is an officious referee (and there are plenty of those) and you have a formula for frustration and disappointment. There was some respite with the ELVs, with the short arms facilitating ‘play on’ but no more. We’ve had our spoonful of sugar and now it’s back to the cod liver oil we had before.

How true, how true.

Anyone who takes their car to Moore Park deserves what they get. Catch the bus up from Central is the ONLY way to go.

Fair enough. So I have to walk to the bus stop that's 2K from my house or spend $30 on a cab to Central. If I take the bus, I walk from Wynyard to Central. Sit around and wait for the bus, sit on a bus, walk some more. Fight through queues for a beer and miss a half of rugby. Deal with grumpy people who hate their jobs. Walk some more after the game. Wait some more for the bus after I have just missed the previous. It starts to rain. I miss the last bus home. Spend another $30 on the cab after some MMA with drunk people on George Street to actually get a cab.

All that after watching the crap served up at SFS last year?

All the above in the name of "entertainment"?

SFS is simply one of the most inconvenient places I have ever had to travel to for a rugby game. Judged by the empty seats I am not the only one who thinks this.

Blue, can you get the Ferry from Manly? They run special event busses from Circular Quay to the game to the SFS. In fact, if you get the bus to Wynyard the walk to Circular Quay is much closer than central also.

The SFS is convenient for some people and inconvenient for others. Homebush on the other hand is incovenient for nearly everyone.

the ticket prices and the tahs performances have had a lot more impact on the crowds at SFS than its location.

We park near the Centennial Hotel on Oxford St, parking is usually not a problem

Its not that bad. Cardiff on the other hand is amazing. Its like the town planners built the town around the stadium. Its bang smack in the thick of it.

Manly is opposite direction for me but I guess next time I can try from Mosman / Cremorne / Neutral bay.

Hmm. Maybe leave the bike there.

So I ride the bike up a fucker of a hill, sit in the cold waiting for a boat thats probably late, miss the bus. Sit in the rain at Circular Quay waiting for the bus becuase I missed the ferry so the timing's all screwed, walk from bus stop to stadium, fight through crowds to buy beer from rude staff. Watch the game and see no tries. Walk back the the bus and miss it again. Wait in the cold, ride on the bus, wait for the next ferry, get seasick, throw up, ride the bike up another fucker of a hill in the cold. Get home a bit drunk, feeling sick, cold, my legs hurt, and I saw no bloody tries.

All this and I live less only about 8k's from the FS.

OK I'll go away now

:lmao:

I never asked for a rational response. ;) Ok it 12.4km according to whereis.

I'm going to leave NTA's thread alone now. He eats more than me.

seasick on the manly ferry? perhaps some concrete is a good idea.

I thought you were in Manly. However if you're near the north shore busses, jump one of them to Wynyard, walk 3 minutes and get the SFS express? Sounds a lot better than teh Homebush options.

You're all ignoring the most sensible option:

I always get a park somewhere around Surry Hills. 10 minute walk. On the way home, I'm back in the car before members have got out of the car park.

Yeah, parking aint a problem, just don't expect to get it 100m from the ground. I park in Woollahra or thereabouts (as fatprop noted, near the Centennial works too), 10 min walk down, 10 min walk back (unless you get side-tracked at one of the many pubs along the way!). Escape route from there avoids all the traffic from the ground anyway.
