Sydney Subbies 2025

And yet we used to play 18 game seasons with barely a week off and we all survived.

Well there were long weekends and wet weather weeks, but sure.

Very different landscape back then. We had 6 divisions of mostly 10 clubs each and rugby was riding high across the land.

Of course prior to 2014 money was involved so that might have been a factor for some.

I personally have no interest in an 18 game season anymore. Could just be because I've gotten older but the rigours on the body of an 18 game slugfest doesnt appeal to me like it used to. 14/15 seems like a reasonable amount and reflects on the casual, non-professional target audience of the competition as a whole. Each to their own though, and salute to the hardmen of yesteryear.

Div two tips

Briars v Forest
Forest seems to be on a little slide, they’ll bounce back this week with a close win over Briars. 24-19 Forest.

Irish v Pats
Pats put up a good fight last week, I think they will push Irish here but just fall short. 19-17 Irish

Shammies v Uni
UNSW have lost a few troops according to team sheets. Notably their 15 who has been their best all year with a nasty injury a few weeks back, will be hard without him. Any word how long he is out for? Shammies win but only just - 30-28

Each to their own. 18 games really wasn't that much, but we need to let the north shore kiddies have their ski weekends now, don't we?

I don't think money filtered down far. I'd love to see some research on the link between the move to shorter seasons and the drop in player numbers. Preseason is longer than the season now. Who wants that?
