Sydney Subbies 2025

Girls GFs need to be fit into Drummoybe oval or Tarplin oval schedule. Dont rissole them to some shire backwater when their supporters will be elsewhere.
I don't think the two JJC finals need to be together. There has been no cross over all year so why start now.

My view is that the Hornsby v Norths game be played at Forshaw with Div 3 - that way all Hornsby supporters are in one spot. I don't care for Norths - they'll be fine and hopefully aren't in Subbies next year. Yes it's a very long way for Hornsby (and everyone else in the GF) but at least Hornsby are all in one spot.

Hopefully the JJC Yellow Grand Final allows Newport and St Pat's fans to get fully involved and make a day of it.

Newport Colts have a major semi at Drummoyne (12:20pm) and St Pat's have a Colts grand final at Concord (11:40am). They are the only other teams playing for Newport and St Pat's on Saturday and they're very close to each other.

Whether it's Concord or Drummoyne or somewhere nearby surely common sense prevails. Both clubs were in the first Joy Johnson Cup in 2023 and along with Lindfield, UNSW and Hunters Hill have been pioneers in the growth of women's rugby at Subbies level. Both clubs very well supported so could be a great event for women's rugby.

I wonder if that’s a reflection of the shorter finals series. I’d originally looked at it as a negative for the top teams like Hills. One slip up and you’re gone. But on the other side the minor premiers have in theory an easier path to the GF playing team 4.

Sums up this year that we have some Grand final venues locked in while other divisions have no clue. Though I believe the Div 5 situation is due to some vandalism of Canterburys ground. Let’s hope we get everything locked in early on in the week.

With a demand on grounds come finals and refs in ever decreasing numbers. Is there interest to see some of the games played later in the day or on different days??
Understand that people have other commitments and families but if you made people aware of the dates from the start of the year they could plan for it.

Playing a lower division on a Friday night would free up some fields or some grades of the higher divisions would mean they dont need to kick off at 9am to fit all the games in.

Oe maybe a Sunday?

There's a ground issue? Call me
Nepean is pretty flexible.

For the club's who host decent games and have a camera on ground level. Check out this lift on marketplace - https://www.facebook.com/commerce/listing/3252610751555935
Biggest issue is NSWRUTV using the equipment - there are "endzone" camera tripods you can buy but they're about $1500 a pop (sans shipping) and a lot more complex than a typical setup (plus, you can't reach the controls on the camera body).

There are solutions out there but, sadly, they are very limited - I was trialling a robotic camera but controlling it became the issue, you'd need a laptop and power source nearby, and that would probably not interface nicely with the streaming stuff in use already.

It's a tradeoff we just have to accept given very few of our grounds have been designed for TV - even Concord Oval (and I love going there for Grand Finals) had to bodge in a scaffold on the roof which is now gone, requiring Stan and Sideline to film from near the canteen. When I was filming some stuff last year at Campbelltown Showgrounds, it was like being in a "proper" stadium - camera platform on half way and "commentary box" right behind.

Went 7 from 10 in Div 2 last week - missed both the 4th Grade results and foolish of me to doubt UNSW in 1s! Well done to Irish in 1s who gave Petersham a mighty scare. That would've been one of the great boil overs.

Grand Final Day at Concord shaping up as another great day. UNSW 4 teams, Petersham 2, Briars 2, Pats & Forest 1. Massive day for Uni who will be happy to take home some Cups after missing out on the CC.

Predictions

Barraclough - Petersham v UNSW - this one is hard to pick. Petersham had the better of Uni twice during the year but UNSW looked much better in the semi. Will take Uni in Extra Time!

Stockdale - Petersham v UNSW - UNSW were very convincing in the semi but will take Petersham to finish the year with one premiership.

Robertson - St Pat's v UNSW - UNSW and Petersham played out a bell ringer whilst St Pat's made light work of Forest. Petersham would be disappointed they missed this GF in Colts. Uni finding form late in the year but St Pat's looking equally sharp. St Pat's to go back to back in the Robertson Cup.

Blunt - UNSW v Briars - Uni to start their say with a win in 3s. Two best teams all year meet in the GF after being tested in the semis. Uni have the benefit of open selection from 3s up and will have a fresh bench to take them home.

Richardson - Briars v Forest - this was Uni's to win but Forest get the big scalp in the 1 v 4 semi. 4s is hard to pick at the best of times and obviously Forest have kept their powder dry in the lower grades. Briars have a had a good 4s all year and will tip them to secure the Richardson Cup.

All the best to all players and clubs!

Another great weekend in Div 1.

HH with another strong victory and will go into this finals series as the strongest of favourites. Only way they lose, is if they beat themselves with nerves this finals series. Drummoyne had a good 2nd half to the year so should take alot of encouragement into 2026

Waverley showing they should be in the Kentwell GF in some shape or form dismantling Mosman comfortably.

Colleagues with their big season recruits manage to hit Mad Monday early this year and might need more players to trouble the finals next year. Newport to stack 3rd and 4th Grade at Porters on Wednesday night to stay in the Big leagues.

Blue Mountains gritty victory with 12 players against Lindfield, but cant see them getting too much further in Kentwell. They will consider making the finals a successful year.
Lindfield have had two weeks in a row against 12 and 13 players and unable to get across the line. Given how vocal they were at the start of the year, this appears to be a massive disappointment. Whilst they have been able to sustain numbers throughout the year, the quality across the board seems to not be there.

Hunters Hill First Div Club Champions by the length of the straight. While the lower grades won't feature in finals, Kentwell finishing with an undefeated regular season, 21 points ahead of 2nd place, is the story. Average winning maring of 27 and a perfect 14 bonus points from 14 makes them tough to look past.

Waverley finishing 2nd but only having 7 wins is quite an effort - 3 draws in there as well but 15 bonus points (!!!) put them ahead of Blueys (9 wins), Mosman (8 wins). The feature in that top 4 is bonus points - double digits for everyone! Colleagues had 8 wins as well but only 7 BPs means they were well out of contention.

Even the "haves" resulted in a "haves" vs "have-nots" :)
