Sydney Subbies 2019

The only person he has injured this season has been himself. Subbies cleared it and we went through the correct international release process. Your 'recent retiree' claim is wrong, when he played rd 1 that was his first game of rugby in 2.5 years so well outside the current Subbies guidelines. He is 33, 2 kids and just wants to play some footy on the weekend.

wipe ya tears, was simply asking a question

no doubt he went through the proper channels. 2.5 years is still recent, 33 is still young and fit, fact he has two kids is fucking irrelevant

At what stage does duty of care come into this? Surely its not the safest thing in the world having Jenkins, a very recent professional retiree, up against Div 3 park footballers

I have to say I'm surprised from his perspective he is interested in playing at such a low level. You'd think if he wanted to keep running around maybe lower grade club rugby would be the place..

Having said that, as an opposition player, I don't necessarily have a problem with it, the rules are what they are.... Just strange to me more than anything.

Kids are relevant to footy, games where you've had no sleep the night before without alcoholic inducement, waking up at 5.30am on game day, not wanting to train more than once a week to spend time with them, having a legitimate dad bod, running after the toddler all morning while they constantly try to take the field...not to mention how Sunday morning hangovers are somehow worse

Looking at his instagram, i dont think he will have a problem with the "dad bod" in the foreseeable future hahaha

Yeah, our 1st grade loosies certainly don't look like that... Interesting to note they're 2/2 with Jono and 0/2 sans Jono. If Mr. Olympia can stay fit, they're my tip for the title.

Wasn't Trevor Leota playing subbies about 15 years ago?

Who could forget Junior Paulo's foray into subbies 3rd grade for Oatley haha. Ryan Cross and Chabal for Balmain?

It'll be interesting to see whether the refs are a bit starstruck and just have a massive hard on for him.. I'm tipping he's not having a hard time winning a penalty.[/quote]

In one of my first years playing in Subbies (I think around 06/07) the former Balmain Tigers player James Langaloa was playing for Bronte Savers after his contract was cut. He came off the bench and was absolutely poll axing blokes. Mismatch would be an understatement.

Speaking of coming up against good players: this guy looks remarkably familiar, according to some of my blokes who played Dee Why in Round 2. Outside centre, I'm told.

We lost 64-33.
Warringah had the bye that week I believe.
There are several other players at the club with that surname.
Dee Why had not won a game before that, nor have they since.

I thought you'd never ask. Firstly, I do agree now that HAC aren't the club they have been. Personally, I think this is probably the 1st year they have completely moved away from any form of player payments (although I believe they probably cut down substantially last year after the Barraclough win in 2017). I think you guys are every chance of beating them this week also if you match their physicality up the middle. The 1st grade team we fielded on Saturday was very similar to the team we fielded against you in our recent draw. I'd probahis report and Tim Richards would be having a coronary?bly say you guys beating Redfield is still the upset on the round. I did notice the Redfield 9 was out who is the best player in the comp IMO.

As for the lower grades, after the threat from subbies about canning our 3rd grade for the year, there was a massive push from everyone in the club to get blokes down for the game, which really seemed to work. This combined with ladies day made for a great turnout both on and off the field. Lots of old boys came down and we fielded a 3s for the first time. There were probably also a few ex 1's players that made the lower grade sides competitive. 2's were up 17-5 and should have gone on with it.

Talking point of the day was definitely one of the HAC second rowers that ran into the crowd and started swinging. He was soon joined by a few of his mates and it was on. Not a pretty sight in suburban rugby. All the boys being back combined with ladies day probably did make our crowd pretty feral, but still you can't leave the field and punch on with the crowd. Amazingly, in an age where you get yellowed for intentional knockdowns and repeat infringements, the ref didn't catch any numbers and everyone stayed on the field.

To the blokes credit, he actually came back into the clubhouse and participated in speeches and boat race etc and a bit of fun was had and all seemed to be forgotten and thats where it ends hopefully.

Surely the ref would have included this in his match report?? Tim Richards will be having a coronary and I would expect him to be all over HAC asking for the players involved to be named and banned. Surely players leaving the field to fight spectators is worthy of some sanction or action.

You'd think so.. I couldn't believe it, I've never seen anything like it before. It was our ladies day tent too, could have been potentially even uglier than it was.

It was kind of a perfect storm. It was a big day for the club and this was late in the second half in first grade, HAC by this stage were going to lose a game they would never have expected to lose, the spectators by this stage had had a skinful and had identified one particular hothead player with a temper and had been giving it to him.... he finally snapped when he realised he was being filmed. The footage cuts out when the bloke with the phone realises he'd better put his dukes up. Admittedly our crowd was fucking feral, I've never heard them like it, it was a big crowd for RCO, biggest crowd there in 3-4 years for sure. Even still, at least 3-4 HAC players threw punches at spectators which can't be on... not that they didn't receive a few back.

Like I said though, the main bloke was a good sport in the clubhouse after and skoled a beer when called out as a bit of a joke by the boys.. everything was left well.

If there is footage then it wont take long for subbies to identify the culprit. Players leaving the field can tun into a semi riot if this goes unchecked. Lets leave that shit to the mungoes.

Think HeavyB could be being a little bias here . Don't think any HAC players left the playing area, the rope was about half a yard off the sideline which is dumb and just asking for trouble. The whole thing happen right in front of the ref, the AR and the ref coach. There was some pushing but I didn't see any punches apart from a bloke from Brothers in a white shirt (I couldn't see everything so could be wrong)

The ref's got to together and decided there was no foul play and didn't give a penalty against either team.

Also, there was talk that at least one and maybe up to 3 of the Brothers players were blokes who play in the central coast comp. Interested to see what Tim Richards said about that too!

Also nice kick by the young bloke in colts, who kicked a HAC player. Young kid's leg is stuffed and maybe gone for the season.

Good to throw rocks!

By the way, Brothers were the better team and congrats on the win

Oh come on mate.... what a load of shite, you've got to be kidding, they did leave the playing area... I know because I had to leave the playing area myself to pull them out of there! Multiple HAC players absolutely threw punches including both starting second rowers and a bench player who was threatening to "kill people". Charming young fella he was. I don't think any landed but one of the blokes would've exchanged half a dozen haymakers with our bloke in the white shirt you speak of. The halfback with the neck tats was looking for a fight and was grabbing anyone who wanted to square up. You were not anywhere near it, what you've said is just such garbage. You're lucky those blokes aren't rubbed out for the year for their sheer stupidity.

The ref and the AR I think just took the view that it was all a bit farcicle and just left it. Said they "couldn't identify numbers".

As for the accusation about the central coast competition, I know one of our players has played in that competition in the past, however he has played for us ever since I've played 1st grade for Brothers in 2016. Can't speak for his history prior to that.

I can't believe you'd even consider giving another club grief about how they recruit players. I could name several Brothers players who have been offered lump sums to leave Brothers and join HAC - some took up the offer, some didn't.. and before you start on about how that was years ago, I know of one instance where it most definitely was not.. I'm sure Mr Richards would be very interested in that one.

One of the Clark Medal nominees from HAC last year somehow ended up playing for HAC after being man of the match in the 2013 or 2014 Kentwell Cup GF for St Pats, who everyone knows paid heavily. She's a big trip from Strathfield to Richmond.

I actually think this year you've finally stopped the cash and are finding it a little tougher than expected. HAC on the weekend reminded me sooo much of where we were at as a club immediately after we stopped paying. Some blokes hang around for a bit and you remain competitive, but watch out, its a slippery slope.

Lastly, I didn't see the incident of the trip but I heard about it when I got to the ground. I'm sorry to hear about the HAC player and hope he is okay. The kid from Brothers is only 18 and I think just had a bit of a brain snap. He was mortified and embarassed by the whole thing and actually left the ground when he's usually a good kid that hangs around and helps with the BBQ and run line etc.

Funny

As I said I didn't see it all but the ref were there.

Again your saying it was all HAC.

Also why do we always go back to the Clark Cup nominees.

Yes he did play for St PAt's before us but he now lives in Riverstone which is a lot closer to Richmond than St PAts.

As I said you boys were the better team but I'm sick and tired of HAC being a free punching bag.

WE have been told that one of your new blokes last week played for Lakes in the central coast comp already this season. Maybe us got a transfer I dont know.

Sorry to hear the young took it so hard but it was a poor thing to do.

Mate, the guy left the playing arena and walked into a tent full of women to fight someone a spectator. I'm pretty sure things are bound to escalate from there. Of course then punches were traded, people tend not to let themselves get punched in the face without retaliating. If you're keen to argue the point I can show you some footage?

Funny you should mention the Clark Medal. Pretty sure it was after a Clark Medal nomination 2 years ago that the most recent offer was made to one of our players. I was actually nominated once and didn't even get a call :(

I can't comment on your Lakes accusation, I'll take your word for that. I only played with one new player last week and I don't think that is who you are speaking about.

Agreed, it was a shit thing to do. No excuses. By all reports deserved a red card but the ref "didnt get his number" despite it clearly being the fullback.

Anyway best of luck with the rest of the season! IF you can keep that team together you will go close!

Anyway, my div 3 tips for the week:

Redfield v Brothers - Not sure who's travelling or how we're lining up yet this week.. the joys of playing for Brothers. Until such time I will lower my expectations. Probably tipping the Newport, Blacktown away form at this stage, however we could also just as easily win this by 20 depending on who turns up. Whether the Redfield 9 is back or still out is a massive factor. Redfield by 30.

HAC v Iggies - Interesting one here. Hopefully Mr Olympia and the Ralph Lauren brigade don't get lost on their way out to Richmond. HAC will be hurting after an unexpected loss on Saturday and I think Iggies will cop it this week. HAC by 14.

Valley v Newport - Going to tip an upset here.. Valley are due and this is a very winnable game for them. They'll be up for it and this will be a true test of Newport's travelling. I believe they're trying to improve their road record and have a bus for every away game however jury is still out.. Valley seem to really be missing their old hard headed 1's captain and number 8 who has been their best player for years... Might be time to give fat Adam Reynolds a shot in the top grade. Valley by 2.

Blacktown V Beecroft - Real clash of styles here and should be a tight one again... will go with Blacktown at home to be a bit too physical for the manbuns. Btown by 10.
