Yeah and looking at Dundas' scoresheets (or lack of content therein) its hurting them.

No short trips for Dundas. No easy games either - poor buggers might be having their last hurrah.

"PETERSHAM v Knox- Petersham way to good in this one. Last week they had a man less for majority of the game and still managed to out play a strong Colleagues side ( in Fairness did lose some key players thanks to the Blue Card System) Petersham by 25+"

The red card was in the 2nd half say about 25 minutes with 14.

Div 4:
  • SYDNEY HARLEQUINS v Macquarie Uni - home side are consistently inconsistent but should have too much for the Beacons.
  • Blacktown v OATLEY - the visitors will be well aware that their First Grade side failed by not getting to the final last year.
  • Briars v CANTERBURY - the Berries found some form against comp leaders Sydney Irish and will look to take that to to Rothwell this weekend.

Div 5:
  • Dukes v MENAI - visitors to romp home
  • Maccabi v RENEGADES - fuck it, we need to win a First Grade game if we're serious about finals. Pfitzy is starting in the #1 jersey - what could go wrong? (don't answer that).
  • LANE COVE v Savers - the mid-table challenge is probably the game of the week. I back the home team (just), but it'll be a great contest between a young team and a slightly older team
  • Convicts v MERRYLANDS - this is a tough one to call as it depends how many of Merrylands' "A" side get there. There will be a Second Grade game so that may cause the Wolves a few personnel issues.

Div 6:
  • Dee Why v NORTH CRONULLA - after a close one last week, the Sea Lice will be on point for a big win
  • BURRANEER v Collaroy - too far to travel for the Cougars against a team in form
  • ENGADINE v Chatswood - another long trip from the north shore, and a predictable result against the 2017 finalists.
  • WAKEHURST v Dundas Valley - the Vikings aren't even filling in players on their scoresheets. Not sure how much longer Subbies can tolerate that.

Yeah, 2 consecutive trips to Rose Bay isn’t kind, but we should be alright with turnouts, as we’ve been playing Halligan matches and have pretty much a completely fresh 1st Grade. We’ve been down a few integral players for a couple of weeks because of work, so we’ll see what happens. Should be a tough game today.

Was at Turramurra today and BOBs were quality all day. Their 3rds grade is made up of of older retired 1sts graders and had the biggest pack of the day. Their colts aren’t big but are sharp, disciplined and play a great style of rugby. Twos were solid but benefited from all the 50/50 calls. 1s very sharp, well drilled and basically Newport didn’t have the ball. Several yellow cards didn’t help Newport’s cause.

Great crowd on hand that definitely rivalled what Forest and Newport get each week.

DiV 2 here they come.

Forest shut down Hills today with a dominant six-try 32-14 win in front of a massive crowd, and came real close to scoring another 3. Gap would have been wider but 10's kicking radar was off.

Hills never got a chance to play their game, except for a 10-min period after Forest got the bonus point and took the foot off the gas at 20-0. Hills ran in 2 tries in that time, but Forest switched back on and scored another 2 tries. Other than that period Hills never looked like scoring.

A great day down at Somerville for the Epping v UNSW clash today; 1st went to Uni, 2nd to Epping and there was a big crowd at Epping to cheer the boys in blue onwards...
What I noticed was that all of the games were played with passion and within the right spirit - great day for Subbies rugby...

Well, I don't mind losing. I don't even mind when the ref isn't of the greatest quality, because its a tough job.

BUT to get sling-tackled on my head and shoulder, right in front of him, and only to have a yellow card handed out to the perpetrator? That is pretty much where I quit.

Please define a sling tackle? Or do you mean 'picked-up-and-dumped' tackle?

Sling tackle is generally where they grab your jersey (sometimes arm) and spin you into the turf.

In this case, the guy grabbed my jersey from behind up near the shoulders, and pulled me over such that my legs were above my hips, and my head and shoulder hit the ground first. Don't know if he used his hip for leverage or what. Doesn't matter.

Red card minimum in my book.

From what you have described above, yes should have been a red card - specially so if your head hit the ground first.
Very unfortunate, and I hope you recover quickly; if you have recorded the game you can still send in a report, with the video evidence, and the player will get sited to appear at the judiciary; foul play/ poor actions like these need to be stamped out of the game - even more so in community rugby

Sling tackle became a bit of a thing in afl.

You grab a guy by the wrist and maybe other hand on the shorts or jersey and use his momentum to bring him down.

Agreed. Unfortunately we don't have video evidence, so I have simply put it into my referees' report and hope that the directives are communicated appropriately, so that sanctions can be applied next time.

I am not too badly hurt, and recovery time is irrelevant when you're retired ;)

I mused on Facebook today that referee numbers are suffering partly because its such a bloody hard job, with very few incentives. I reckon if the NSWRU and RA want to get clubs paying extra money every year, it should go into ref development. Soccer refs get paid well. Touch football refs get paid better than rugby refs.

"Love of the game" is only going to get you so far.

The sling tackle or Cumberland Throw,a favourite of Ray Price, was outlawed 40 years ago in Rugby League it was considered so dangerous.

Big upset of the round being Knox beating Petersham. Any sideline update?

Kentwell and Barraclough Cups look much more evenly matched compared to lower DIVs.
Div 3 BOBs & HAC will battle out for the title with Redfield the only threat of spoiling the big dance. Iggies face a big test this weekend when they host HAC to hang on to 4th spot.
