Match of the round just completed. HAC won 17-7. A great contest. However the referee may need to check his whistle before his next appointment because he may have blown the pea out of it. I think he saw the video camera and thought he might have been on TV.

Renegades lost first grade 15-12 in a mistake filled game. Seconds got up 24-21 after surrendering three quick tries. Third grade went down 10-3 after leaving 3-0 at HT and then a serious injury required ambulance

I do wonder if having subbies clubs' reasonable costs all met by Dismal Pillock's offshore (Pitcairn) discretionary trust would help.

Everyone has been aware that it's getting harder to play organised sport on a weekend with the demands of the 'flexible' workplace etc, with player numbers fluctuating not just by the season, but by the week - especially if travel is involved.

The challenge seems to be as much about finding a divisional structure that can prevent situations like KOBs (and many other clubs). Perhaps the powers that be could considee combining two smaller clubs into a slot in a division (say, KOBS playes 1sts and 3rds, another club 2nds and 4ths). The trick is doing so without diluting the club atmosphere that makes Sydney Subbies such a great institution.

Agreed and this is probably the conversation we should have been having 3 years ago when the trend started to properly emerge.

Interesting results in Div 2 again. Waverley sweep all grades again, destroying Newport in the process. Forest bring Hunters Hill back to earth. BoB's annihilated again, this time by Mountains.

Early results suggest Waverley and Mountains are the teams to beat, although Forest are starting to click and have players returning next week.

Reports from Div 2 are that Waverley are very well organised, have vast player numbers and are clearly benefiting from training as teams each week. They are a Div 1 club on the move. Newport apparently didn't travel well and with players playing 2 or 3 games was always going to be a tough day against well drilled opposition.

At Melwood there was plenty of sideline banter with the Forest crowd constantly alluding to Hunters Hill supposed recruitment of 6 West Harbour players. Apparently it got a little over the top and there was almost fireworks. Certainly proves Hunters are beatable all be it it could have gone either way.

Blue Mountains apparently have some enormous men (as always) through their grades, mo hawks and all. BOBS 1sts look they might be in for a tough season with plenty of new faces. Mountains looking good but numbers in 4ths remain an issue.

Didn't get any mail on Hills vs UNSW. Looks like they shared the honours in some close ones.

Great contests up at Soldiers Memorial Park with Petersham winning all grades besides 4ths. Very close games all round. Colts in particular was an absolute corker.

Side note, Lindfield coming out to classic hard rock songs is top notch!

Anyone know what is happening with 5th grade in Div 1 and Halligans? Have heard mixed information.

Suggested it to Subbies in a long and well-phrased letter about 5 years ago, pointing at other competitions in rural areas, where they do this successfully.

As usual, because it wasn't from a club in the top two divisions, it was ignored.

It's even done up in Brisbane. I guess it is pretty much a big country town.

The competition in Hong Kong is organised along similar lines, which they apparently 'borrowed' from the UK.

Interesting Match Ups this weekend in Div 2

Newport v UNSW @ Porters Reserve
UNSW will be upbeat after knocking off Hills away from
home last week, and Newport were beaten very convincingly by Waverley away
One believes Newport will be too strong at home on a tough ground to win at and there Family Day... Newport by 10

Hunters Hill v Blue Mountains @ Boronia Park
Match of the Round in Div 2, Mountains currently undefeated and taking on a HH side that was brought back down to earth after a close lose to Forest the Week before
Think HH will win this just over the men from the Mountains

Barker v Forest @ Turramurra
Think it will be a tough old day for the BOBs in the Grand Final Rematch... After 2 convincing losses in a row I can't see Barker beating Forest who returned to form knocking off HH at home last week
Forest by 20

Hills v Waverley @ Yattenden
Haven't the new boys on the bloke impressed, undeafted in all Grades and winning 8 from 8 last week!!!
And the Hills Boys whilst not firing as yet seemed to show improvement in round 2
This will be a close won but I think Hills on their LadiesDay will just scrap home and get their first win of the year in 1s

A mate of mine who plays for Waverley says they have recruited very well and have their sights set on Div 1. They put a lot of effort into building a great club culture, even if it does have tinges of arrogance.

Folks, can anyone in here shed light on Balmain's forfeit in colts for last week's fixture against Mosman? Will they have a team ready to play Saturday vs. Petersham?

Cheers in advance

Agree with your other tips but think Waverley will be to strong for Hills who will struggle all year due to a suspect backline. Forest will beat Bobs by 50.

Good luck to them. When you can field 8 teams in this environment you deserve to be cocky. With that player depth they deserve Div 1 for sure next year.

I hear it was just a one off and that they have a few returning players over the next couple weeks.

That will be the game of the weekend... huge rivalry between both teams and Petersham also have their ladies day and old boys day at the same time. Its going to be a blockbuster. Both teams literally hate each other (in a professional sports manner) so anything can happen.

Results are in. Feeling for Kings Old Boys. 98-3 and 75 -3. Subbies should let them forfeit 1s and 2s as having lower graders getting belted by 1 graders becomes a player safety issue.

Div 2 results as expected with Forest demolishing BOBs.

Sick today so couldn't make it out to Latham Park against Irish.

Rouse Hill won First Grade in a close one, apparently a comfortable win in Second Grade, and Thirds went down by a point. Good results for an away game

Word is that Colleagues have recruited well & have a new 15 cap International playing for them plus a number of Shute Shield 1st graders from 2015.

Clearly the new rules don't apply to some....
