Canterbury v Harlequins was still on because Wills Ground is already a fucking swamp to start with. Honours look to have been shared - 5-all draw in 2nd Grade. Home side won 3rds, Quins took 1sts.
Irish Blacktown is off. Guess it'll be "team bonding" in the pub instead of footy
Yeah hopefully the weather holds off for next weekend - its Old Boys Day at the Renegades so I might suit up for either Halligan (if we get one) or an early stint in 3rds before coming off to organise 2nds. Depends what my spine thinks.
Hornsby Council called Headen Park off about two days out I reckon. We had a Halligans game scheduled at Yattenden against Hills at 0945 that also went by the wayside.
Early days yet but I don't think Blacktown will be quite the same team they were last year.
I would agree with that assessment - while our First Grade is the best I've seen it in a few years (new coach helps) and it was an entertaining contest against the Warriors, a far better mark would be their 2nd Grade who were a bit clueless against us a couple of weeks back. Barely used their backline at all despite, on several occasions, having 4 on 1 overlaps etc.
Anyway Blacktown might be missing a couple of blokes at this point, and their 1sts still have a decent scrum. But I don't think they're going to have the fitness across their Grades to stick with the front runners.
Not that we're innocent on that part: I need to get some of these 2nd Grade forwards dropping kilos before they're where I want them. I and the other 2nd Grade coach are pretty similar in philosophy after training Wednesday night: fat man's track, and don't plan for too much wider. Fitter teams will really give us trouble.
