Tom Matthews was pretty much Gordon's standout throughout the year. Jack Dempsey when he played at the end of the season was on another level as well. This might explain some of the results towards the end of the year when Gordon drew Southern Districts and were extremely competitive.

Dempsey looks like he is still injured otherwise would be playing 7 I think although not sure why Katoni Ale wasn't selected as you have indicated regarding Bergelin being selected.

In regards to Matthews when he runs the ball hard and straight he is extremely effective he is a big unit for an inside.

The rats inside centre was not that good and the only other option might be to play Daruda or Hingano who both played 2nd grade in the last half of the season if I remember?

Tom is probably the biggest IC in the Shute shield - he will be embarrassed that I post this but his the Highlights reel I did for him for the NRC selection process. I agree Demmo's injury at the Tahs 7s stopped him from starting this weekend.

Thank you, I was mindful with the way I asked the question and well answered. Hingano knee 5 weeks & Daruda 3 weeks (hammy) is the reasons why they came back through 2's.
cheers

His other advantage is he is a left foot kicker so you can spread it wide and clear the ball quite effectively.

Do you know if the jerseys will be sold online?
As a fomer MacQuarie Uni student and Cremorne resident I'd like to ship one jersey to France ;-)

The QLD ones are meant to be available in early September, given they're all Asics made I'm guessing that's when the rest will be too.

It wont matter what they are called if they don't start tackling. Finally got to watch the game via a youtube link. I know its a new team and still getting to know each other , but there are some problems in the backs?

Yes interesting, first and only game and combos new - Manly had the best D all year but no Manly combos there.
We were sort of in it until the changes (on the score board), looking forward to Thursday night.

look forward to see who they have picked in the backs this week? Any coach that watched that game will be sending plenty of runners that way?

My back line would be very one eyed, and with only one fame played it would be unfair to pass judgement as we played against a team that have trained as super players for a large part of the year.
Some of my thoughts.
Maile, Northam - they'd be in my team.
Given Aust u20s and having time in Super rugby this year Lala should be with the Rays. Much the same as Matt Philip.

You can have Swanepoel back if you want him. Mop haired two-step-pass klutz.

I'd have picked Lucas for the Marlins in their tilt for the premiership - but - Swanny is still a class player. Rugby is a team sport that requires combos - take Beale for example, a heap of class and finished off the Super season playing well in 12 - stick him in at 10 and he's like a soldier crab at low tide.

Combinations, yes.

Stepping twice before you pass as a halfback, no
Agree yes, depending on game plan and opposition with mobile loosies he created considerable havoc, a game plan can be built on this as it can draw the inside backs and create space with quick 3rd or 4th phase ball. but yes he needs to be able to throw a pass off the ground and this needs to be improved to add variation.
