When I played colts in the early 80's for easts, we were flying flogged by Randwick, Gordon and Eastwood who attracted the Rockstars due to their success. Uni Easts and Norths were perennial promotion/relegation candidates, so there is a cycle and it was no different then. Uni and Norths played an exceedingly tight GF last year, and Easts could have been there. I watched the NZ 20s at the Oceania Championships and Aussie Schools do a pre game Hakka, then a post victory Hakka on the field having won convincingly. Arrogant? Perhaps, but no tears were shed, just a resolve to step up next time

Dwyer was using the Oz job to recruit then just as Cheika used the Tahs job.
It was wrong then and its wrong now.
Have a look at Randwick's form leading up to, say, Horwitz and Kellaway going there. They were not attracted by results. Randwick had not won a 1st grade comp for 10 years when they left school.

Why is winning arrogant and elitist? Is losing better? The 2nds Colts are coming 4th so maybe they are pretty pleased beating a tough side.

Most Clubs recruit, some do it better and sooner than others. Most of the so called rockstars from 2017 will have been identified and lured to someones web..

I have no doubt Uni has a great program.
I know they work both hard and smart.
some rockstars recruit themselves, because there are clear benefits in being with a strong performing club, with great influence with pro recruiters.
I get that, and good luck to them.

It's the ones that they chase with incentives that sticks in my craw.
As IS stated, when you are so chock full of rockstars that some have to play 3's to get a game, then the balance is all wrong, and the strength of the club is damaging the competition.

Rugby Mum, you keep looking after Uni rorting a broken system - for their own ends - and you'll get the frigging super rugby results the Tahs deserve when all they have to pick from are the product of lopsided competitions in which you're lucky to get 4 hard games a year. Perhaps your son can go down in history like the thylocene as the last Wallaby.

Looks like Randwick have had a generous interpretation of the points cap since Rd 1 not good ole Uni, playing by the rules, as always.

Son go play with mighty Sunwolves so mother doesn't need to work and pay taxes to support the truly wonderful facilities at Pauls College Oval that hasn't seen a capital works programme for 50 years.

All this negativity is what is wrong with rugby...If my son was the last Wallaby he would play to the death and I would sing the national anthem loud and proud, if he won or lost.

True, but the Rep players miss the first few rounds due to Under 19s, Under 20s. If they are selected in Aus 20s, shadow or squad they miss more games - so the "rockstars" are potentially missing 11 round games. So it is the other players that do step up and benefit form structured training etc.

I have only see them play once last year on main oval and once this year. Not sure about upcoming Super Saturdays.

Paul's Oval is like a cow paddock.

The main ground is a great facility for watching. The surface is not a patch on the Southern Districts ground.

only two matches to go until everyone has played each other and only two points between 4th and 7th. Good matches coming up this week with
1uni v2 woods
and the Rats 7th on 27-Marlins 5th on 28 super Saturday with a crowd of 5k should be fun
I am sure the Norths v Gordon match will be a passionless affair. The winner getting a leg up to maybe being within reach of the top six

All the talk about juniors ignores the fact that a lot of these players are country boys who have no allegiance to SRU clubs. What can the clubs not aligned to a university offer? I know my old club had nothing.

I saw that but wonder if the reserve players don't go on the field whether that is still the case? I was looking at Randwick and even if you take out the reserves, in some instances its a technical breach.

On the same token, Norths have listed players as 0 which isn't possible.

And it will be an absolute cracker this weekend:

I am tipping:

Uni in a close one over Eastwood
Norths over Gordon
Manly over Warringah
Southern over Parra
Randwick over Penrith
Easts over WH

By inference , you are happy with the present ongoing "strong clubs" , "weak" clubs dichotomy & it's consequences.
Perhaps you can indicate what level of disparity between the two should be acceptable to the rest of us , & the ensuing benefit to the competition & our sport which would follow.

Tell me a competition anywhere that is perfectly even.

Most competitions in sport have teams and clubs that are consistently strong.

And over time it can change depending on the driving forces at the organisation. . Go and find the thread especially set up for ranting against Uni, read the first few pages. You will see Uni were about to be relegated into second division when some people decided to turn things around. It's interesting reading and puts things into perspective.

For what it's worth, I do think Uni have strong Colts team this year. But I have seen plenty of good talent with other teams as well. UNI 1st had very close wins over East's and Manly, so I don't think the comp is that lopsided. Most clubs seem to have a weight advantage in the forwards over Uni.

I think coaching, training and fitness accounts for a fair portion of their success.
