Great article GO111
My understanding of the rules if teams are on equal points at the seasons end it goes on who won the most games and then for and against

Do you know what the qualifying criteria is for players to play in the finals series? i.e amount of games in a grade and total amount of games?

For all the criticism of Uni and Randwick we have seen here, those clubs have not been scared to give some of the colts a run at grade level where the opportunity arises and skill sets are appropriate
The adoption of this style of policy by some of the other clubs may entice ambitious players as well as demonstrate a commitment to the future that may help retain players graduating from the aged ranks

And Woods have been playing Osbourne up in grade.

I think most clubs just play the best 15 they have available to them, starting in first grade. If that involves a Colt, so be it.

Only at this end of the season, clubs might think about holding a player in colts depending on where they are on the table, and what the finals chances are both in grade and colts.

I'm backing Manly for the 6th spot. Terrific game on the weekend, again got unlucky with the referee, penalised them right outta the game !! Again should be a tough match up for the men from south and ratties !! Big week fellas should be a good finish

Gordon also runs colts in grade when the opportunity arises....

Done that

There are plenty of examples of other clubs ,both this season ,& in previous seasons. doing the same thing.

I believe it is essentially 4 games to qualify.... But players away on Rep commitments get some sort of dispensation.
There is also some % criteria based upon what grade you play for the last 7 rounds as to what grade you are eligible for. Fresh reserves count as the grade you reserved.

If your bloke isn't getting the opportunities he wants try another club, you would expect some would have made enquiries by now
if he has the right tools

Thanks GOIII, just to clarify is it 4 games or 4 rounds? i.e. more than 1 game on a day?

I believe that a number of clubs do this. Uni & Randwick are not on their own. Easts does it!

There's a shopping list for you
Uni Randwick Easts Eastwood Warringah
Five of the current top six colts squads have provided opportunities for selected players to play grade. Chicken and eggs or horse and carts, but this demonstration of willingness to give experience to top performers may add to that individuals resume when competing for higher honours.
Clubs not willing to enhance Colt development may not attract the players they need to compete in the contest

Not sure i am following the logic - a quick check of team lists and i found colts in grade from Souths, Norths, Gordon, Wests... before i gave up looking.

Seems most if not all clubs do same. The argument might be simpler if you know of a club that doesn't?

Take Manly off the list of 3 named above
Fraser Toohey scored 3 tries in second grade today
Manly 1st grade colts got the 40 points difference they needed to be up on the for and against
