there are exceptions to every rule coach.
The odd kid bypassing colts has little to do with 2 clubs cornering the market in schoolboy reps, and what rules should be enforced to spread the wealth fr the good of the game.

Sorry, I wasn't commenting on the issue of some clubs picking up more school leavers than others (or defending my club), I was just making the point that the points issue doesn't apply if some of them end up in grade.

As has been canvassed many times in this and the SS forum players go to clubs (and change clubs) for many reasons. Trying to spread the talent more evenly is a wonderful aspiration but, as has been proven in many sports, not so easy to achieve and anyone who thinks clubs are going to turn players away is not in the real world.

Its not the turning of players away that is the issue, the issue is the inducement through promises of rep careers, cars ,cash and accommodation (as people have mentioned on this forum)......for COLTS players to leave their original club which is the issue.
Then try and change the points system because there are too many players to fit into the 75 points allowed for 1st and 2nd grade colts teams.

The points apply in grade too: didn't we have the farcical position a couple of years ago at uni that they had so many Oz schools graduates they had to put them in 3rd grade or 3rds colts so they wouldn't count.
Not good for the game or the individual.
Insiders at Uni tell me that thy moved away from this model to a no dickheads model - the two being largely incompatible!

A mate also attended the Syd Uni colts trial on the weekend and from what he could glean from talking with some parents is this years crop of recruits includes -

3 * AUS schools
5 * NSW 1 & 2 Schools
2 * Qld 1 & 2 schools
1* Gordon 1sts colt (2016)

Think you are counting 2 years of recruits there.

If I'm correct in basing it on 6 points for Gen Blue players & Aussie Schoolboys; and 4 points for State players from the previous year, the following player points without discounts would apply:

Got me thinking so did a quick count on the current gen Blue 20's side which took the field last weekend -

Randwick - 8 - 32 - 48 points (Assuming all were at least State players from the previous year)
Uni - 7 - 28 - 42 points
Easts - 2 - 8 - 12
Warringah - 2 - 8 - 12
Norths - 1 - 4 - 6
Manly - 1 - 4 - 6
Souths - 1 - 4 - 6
Country - (Bradford) unless he has moved to Sydney - 4 -6

A mate also attended the Syd Uni Colts trial on the weekend and from what he could glean from talking with some parents is this years crop of recruits includes -

3 * AUS schools - 18
5 * NSW 1 & 2 Schools - 20
2 * Qld 1 & 2 schools - 8
1* Gordon 1sts colt (2016) - ?
Total = 46 points without Gen Blue players
I am not fully across the points system, but my understanding is that in year 2 the points halve.

The randwick situation is ridiculous. Hell, its even unaustralian!

If i understand the point system correctly it is
  • 6 points for an Aust school / Aust Barbarian from 2016
  • 5 points for a current NSW U20's
  • 4 points for a NSW I, NSW II or Combined States player from 2016
  • 2 points for a new player to club
  • 50% discount for a local junior or returning player from last year.
  • No player less than 1 point
Taking the Randwick names being thrown around and throwing them into a 1st and 2nds Colts (I am not trying to be a selector - just adding points) = they certainly have issues.

1st Colts - 40 point Cap
1. Dan Matthews (Central Coast jnr), Aust Barb / NSW II = 6 pts
2. Blake Schoupp (Illawarra jnr), Qld I = 4 pts
3. Harrison N Chapman, NSW U20's = 5 pts
4. Dylan Pietsch (Gordon jnr), Aust Barb / NSW I = 6 pts
5. Tom Piroddi, NSW U20's = 5 pts
6. Tom Serhon (Randwick jnr = 50% discount), CS = 2 pts
7. Lachlan Simpson, NSW U20's = 5 pts
8. Justin Cooper, NSW U20's = 5 pts
9. Tyzac Jordan(Randwick jnr = 50% discount), Aust Barb / NSW II = 3 pts
10. Wilkinson, Nicholas (Cowra jnr), NSW U20's & Aust Sch / NSW I = 6 pts
11. James Ramm, NSW U20's = 5 pts
12. Matt Orpen (Eastwood jnr), Aust Barb / CS = 6 pts
12. Daniel Boardman, NSW U20's = 5 pts
14. Yirrbi Jaffer-Williams (Norths jnr), NSW U20's & Aust Sch / NSW I = 6 pts
15. Patrick Pellegrini (Randwick jnr = 50% discount), CS = 2 pts
Total Points = 71

2nd Colts - 35 point Cap
1. Jack Upton (? jnr), NSW II = 4 pts
2. Will Anderson, (Randwick 2016), = 1 pt
3. Cameron Prince (Manly jnr), NSW I = 4 pts
4. Christian Poidevin (Randwick jnr = 50% discount), = 1 pt
5. Lewis Allen / Tom Nowlan (Randwick 2016), = 1 pt
6. Angus Vivers(Country jnr), = 2 pts
7. Ben O'Sullivan (Randwick jnr = 50% discount), CS = 2 pts
8. Sam Musgrove (Randwick 2016) = 1 pt
9. ?? = 1 pt
10. Will Harrison (Randwick jnr = 50% discount),NSW II = 2 pts
11. Jackson Mohi (Randwick jnr = 50% discount), NSW I = 2 pts
12. Ryley Angles-Corke / Zac Trinkler (Randwick jnr), = 1 pt
13. Darcy Searl(Hunter jnr), = 2 pts
14. Ben Williams (Randwick 2016), = 1 pt
15. Dion Narayan (Randwick jnr = 50% discount), = 1 pt
Total Points = 27

my understanding of the points is that its only a 1 point deduction as a club junior. So if u r 6 points then you are 5. In you second year, u gain a point deduction as a junior and 1 point deduction as a returning player so you are 3 points. 50% is the max u can be deducted from your original allocated points. I could be wrong.

Points are based on what they did in 2016 so guys who are playing NSW 20s for the first time this season, those points come into effect next year less a 1 point deduction for each season played or a junior player deduction of 50%
I would think guys like Chapman and Pirodi will move to grade.

So who out of the Randwick names are playing NSWU20s for the first time? Justin Cooper is one.
That will bring the points down a bit .... only 31 points to lose.

Tom Serhon and Will Harrison played Baa Baas 2016. Not sure if Jackson Mohi, Ben O'Sullivan and Tyzac Jordan are Randwick juniors; it depends on the criteria for being classed as a junior.

Serhon and Harrison fixed - i don't profess to know how the discounts or NSW U20's stuff works.

as a matter of interest: do the Tahs U20s who have been sent back to the clubs because they are U19 count for the same points as those kept in the squad?

tooldtoplay

Bob McCowan (2)
Dylan Pietsch (Gordon jnr), Aust Barb / NSW I = 6 pts
Is he a lock? Didn't he play for Aust 7's
And plays flanker and centre???
