His name was released by the Waratahs media people as being in the Supplementary Squad. Money has changed hands AFAIK - not a lot of $ but others I know of in similar situations in the past have received money from Tahs inc.

Perhaps "Supplementary Squad" is a loophole that is outside the intent of the Comp rules. Not as if they are Superstars being parachuted into lower grades for the specific intent of stacking a game.

Norths have had a good colts program for 5 or 6 years.
It's been building, and by no means on overnight success.
They were very confident of taking it out a few years ago,but depth got them.

In grade, I could see them improving throughout the season.
They recruited well, with some of the new guys taking them up a level.

The players have gelled well, they believe they can ain any game, and are keen to improve themselves. But the key is the coaches letting the players have input and taking responsibility for their season. The club has done well for the past 4 years with little expectation from most of the other clubs i think. Now, they are a solid performing club. I also think the head coach should take a lot of cudos.

Proud of my 3rd Grade Randwick Colts boys today, Gave it everything and left nothing on the field in the Semi Final against Uni. Without being bitter (Ok just a little) we were the better side and when we took the lead in the second half Uni had to resort to pure filth tactics and play a first grade player (Not colts but grade) to get them the lead back, they parachuted him in with 10 to go for 6 minutes, he set up a try turned over the restart then they took him off again. This player has played NSW U20's been on Aus U20's radar and has played 1st GRADE multiple times this year. This is 3rd Grade Colts Uni well done congratulations.

When you have all 3 teams in finals you can do what you want with players as there is no points cap in 3's. My gripe is this goes completely against the spirit of the game.

The rules regarding eligibility are rather complex, however the basic principle is where the player has played the majority of their last 7 games is the grade in which they can play finals for.

The "Open Selection" (where a club has two or more consecutive grades in Finals) provision usually leads to claims of rorting. Clubs who work out that they will not have "Open Selection" provisions sometimes do some crystal ball planning and start playing better players in lower grade cameos from around Round 12 onwards to make them eligible for lower grade finals teams.

Unless things have changes, Clubs list all their players and the grades in which they have played their last 7 games on a form that is sent to SRU.
SRU then sign off on that eligibility, and this is used by the Match Administrators at the venue to monitor who takes the field. I think Managers have to submit their Team sheets 30 minutes before kick off.

The likes of Swinton, who have played one or more First Grade games may still be eligible for Colts depending on how many games they have played for First or Second Grade, and how many of those were in the last 7 games played.

There is a restriction for playing 3rd Colts in that Aust Schoolboys or Schoolboys A/Barbarians can not play 3rds Colts. Contracted Super Players are only supposed to play First Grade. Another anomaly is that there is no Player Points loading for NSW U20, or playing NRC.

Best to have the Club take up any concerns about playing ineligible players with SRU, although good luck with that. Team's that have been above the points cap, based on published data on the Shute Shield web site seem to escaped censure.

I think the eligibility is 4 out of the last 7 games or the player had to have played at least 60% of that teams games throughout the season. Also from memory i think randwick colts 3s played a NSW U20 player in the centers earlier in the season

^^^^I'm intrigued now. Is there a glasshouse on Coogee Oval?

Might have to fire up the Jarse-o-meter to check out the Colts 3 team lists from this week. It would be nice if the team sheets could be relied upon. I seem to recall some discussion involving one of the clubs in question seeming to try to claim a 4 try bonus point by marking up 4 tries on their team sheet despite the sum of the individual points not adding up to the official score. Other teams have seemingly played fixtures with 14 players (according to the team sheets on the web site) and yet more teams have fielded squads over the player points cap without attracting sanction. Then there are clubs with players who seem to have "flexible" and variable Player Points ratings.

Should be fun checking out the data, if I can find the time or the motivation. A brief glance over the Team Lists from the weekend posted above reveals a number of Players who played at Natuonal Schoolboys Championships over the last couple of years were listed in Colts 3 teams, including one lad who has been selected for (but yet to play for) Australian Schools Barbarians. Are these legitimate Colts 3 level players?

Never underestimate the lengths that some will go to to manipulate the eligibility criteria, and that's not just the "open selection" criteria.

Thanks Joeys Fan, The player was Siosi. Not sure which NSW player you're suggesting we played in the centres earlier in the season though. Most Players returning from an injury went in through 3's to earn their position back, not uncommon, but this was not the case yesterday.

I really like the way norths have just lugged away this season. To start, the loss of jack Clancy really hurt, such a quality player, and a big loss. But, they pressed on, no quote unquote rockstars, just a group of guys wanting to show what they can, and how they can get better and better as the season progresses. I am confident norths can with this season, and take to a tough uni squad. It will be interesting how many of the norths players get identified by NSWRU and move on to representative teams. Very few thus far after having been a solid colts performing club for the past 4 seasons.

^^^^ Norths have had the measure of The Corporation in their Home/Away matches for 2014, and 2015, and possibly 2013 - things are a little hazy from way back then.

I can't recall them meeting in a previous final match, but if they have in the last 3 years, they haven't been able to repeat the magic because The Corporation have been in all recent Grand Finals, winning most, (v Manly 2013, v Randwick 2014 & 2015).

Something has been going OK at Bon Andrews oval. The loss of Jack Clancy (and Jack Mac/Connor O'Shea) screwed the chances of the NSW U20 this year, although if fit, I reckon he would have spent a fair bit of this year playing Grade footy rather than Colts.
