after no real upsets over the weekend, the fight for that 6th spot is certainly heating up. a couple of big rounds coming up, with norths and eastwood fighting for what I think is that crucial 4th spot, and manly, east, and rats fighting for the 6th spot. I think woods have the toughtest run home, but anything can happen. easts beaten rats next round will put an end to the rats season.

* Results and points from M2B v Shoremen in Colts 1, Colts 2 & Colts 3, and Highlanders v MMM in Colts 3 added. Score from Highlanders v MMM in Colts 2 to come.

2016 Colts Club Champions
Sydney University have a lead of 81 over Randwick. Even if Sydney University lose all games without any bonus points and Randwick do the opposite, they can not lose the 2016 Colts Club Championship.

Randwick have sewn up the Silver Medal for 2016.

The race for 3rd will be close. Norths have another potential 55 points from deferred fixtures to make up which could place them on 665 meanwhile Gordon have a potential 25 points from deferred fixtures which could place them on 662 points going into round 18. Round 18 is Gordon v Woodies and Shoremen v MMM. No sure thing for both clubs.

Penrith 22 Southern Districts 17 - Woo Hoo! Go the Emus.
They won in the 3rds as well.
I don't know the circumstances but that is something I have been hoping to see for may years.

Beware the sleeping giant!
Hard work paying off and plus morale boosted by some young talent stepping up in 3rds who got the win. 1sts have been competitive but have been their own worst enemy in some narrow losses. Even on the weekend having possession on half way and putting a kick though with 30 seconds left extending the game another 5 minutes to give SD a sniff.

I wanted to ask about what was happening at Penrith. I had noticed that their 1st Colts team has had some good results against quality teams eg only 20 point loss to Uni particularly at a time of year when they often fall away.
What's been the success story this year? Are there players that can be retained for many years? Are they young and will do they even better in Colts next year?
Congrats on the win and a significantly better season.

Its a mixture of things I think. The return to fielding Junior reps in 2011 starting to pay dividends. A new generation of juniors and families coming through the junior clubs building relationships, working together and buying in, having a real connection to the Emus brand. I haven't been close enough to the Colts to offer an answer to all the questions but the wins on the weekend definitely helped strengthen those bonds moving forward.

I've just been trawling through the thread on Player Points in an effort to find an explanation for a Colts player having no points recorded against his name - anybody able to enlighten me? I thought that even with the maximum discounts they'd have to have 1 point.

^^^ I'd be very careful about reading too much into the team sheets on the web site, for anything related to the players. There are a few games where the individual tries scored and goals kicked don't add up to the score recorded.

Plenty of teams have apparently played games with only 14 or 13 players with no player recorded against one of the 15 starting places, and the bench players on the list that have never played in the vacant starting position.

Then there are players like a regular Colts 1 hooker who has spent half the season at 2 PP, and the other half they are a 4 point player. The points upgrade appears to have happened not long after their player points loading was queried on this very thread.

And one club in particular appears to be having problems entering any team sheet detail at all. Although some weeks, the Internet appears to be kind to said club evidenced by completion of Team sheet detail.

TL;DR the web site data can't be relied upon. Either the application is not user friendly with little or no data validation functionality, or the clubs CBF entering accurate data, possibly because managers haven't filled the sheets in properly.

Oh. You are right. The Comp rules do not allow a player to be discounted to lower than 1 point. A player can only be discounted by a maximum of 50% of their base points value. The minimum base points value is 2 points. With maximum discount applied, this player has a 1 PP value.

Thanks HJ - I was only curious because while I've seen on the web-site that a number of teams have struggled with player names, scores and player points over the course of the season, which is understandable. However, the team I was thinking of have consistently in the past few weeks listed a player as nil points (-) while at the same time attributing the correct points to most (but not always all) of the other players in the team. Interestingly, it seems to coincide with the team being close to the allowed team points limit, and if all players (incl reserves) had the correct points allocated to them they'd have been over the limit a couple of times. I seem to remember some discussion about this team's flexible approach to player points allocation earlier in the season.

You got the grey matter going there @oldColt.

A quick scan reveals that it wasn't the usual suspects, nor in the usual grade.

It seems that you may be referring to a 2nd grade team located slightly NE of the club you are aligned with. It is not the same player each week that has a "-" Player Point score, but several players.
Round 1 - 30 declared points, 5 Players rated "-", BP Win, possibly over cap
Round 2 - 30 declared points, 2 Players rated "-" BP Win, probs under cap
Round 6 - 28 declared points, 2 Players rated "-", loss, almost certainly under cap
Round 8 - 29 declared points, 1 Player rated "-", BP Win, under cap
Round 9 - 32 declared points, 1 Players rated "-", loss, under cap
Round 10 - 34 declared points, 1 Players rated "-", BP Win, prob on cap
Round 11 - 25 declared points, 2 Players rated "-", Win, under cap
Round 13 - 29 declared points, 3 Players rated "-", loss, probs under cap
Round 14 - 32 declared points, 2 Players rated "-", Win, probs on cap
Round 15 - 35 declared points, 2 Players rated "-", BP loss, over cap
Round 16 - 34 declared points, 1 Player rated "-", loss, probs on cap
Round 17 - 35 declared points, 1 Player rated "-", BP Loss, over cap

Any loss of competition points would cause the offenders to drop one place on the ladder, and probably out of finals looking at the possible Round 18 results. With the club in question almost certain to get C1 & C3 in finals, it would also break the rule on continuous selection for the club at finals. This would prevent free movement of players between Colts 1 & Colts 3 (less Aust Schoolboys who can not play C3).

Wonder if anyone is going to do an audit?
It would seem to be of benefit to the Hobbits if this was to occur.

Well spotted @OldColt.

Thanks HJ - you've done some damned fine work yourself!

To extend the theme of nefarious activity with PP somewhat, I looked back at some posts in April, where there was discussion of the 1sts Colts match between my club, and the club from slightly NE of us. If you recall, there was a question about the calling of uncontested scrums by our opposition, which, at the time, was thought to have been a tactic to avoid using reserves that would take them over the PP limit.

I posted at the time (see post #192 of this thread) that they had in fact exceeded the limit that day even with the two reserves they'd used, as both reserves had been incorrectly given 1 pt each, when they'd been given 2 pts in the earlier 2nds Colts match. Now, in trawling back through the player sheets, I see that the two reserves in question on that fateful day have had their PP adjusted downwards in the 2nds list to show 1 pt each (curious!!!) - funnily enough, though, whoever made, or requested, the change hasn't altered the listings for Rnds 1-3, in which these 2 players are still shown having 2 pts each (even curiouser!!)

Unfortunately, while this has been an interesting exercise for a slow lunch break, unless the competition overseers do something about it, the rorting of the PP system by certain clubs will continue unabated.
