What about the Rats? They took it to Southern! And Penrith over Eastwood. It is a really good competition this year across all the grades.

I suspect the hand of Augustine of Hippo behind the "resurgence" of the Rats yesterday. Whether they can retain that form when ISA Div 1 games resumes remains to be seen.

Either that or the surf must have been really crap yesterday - Forecast was: "Weak conditions for the weekend and into Monday morning with some possible SSW/S swell for later Monday."

How many players do you think Auggies have?
they were credited with the Rats win in 3's on Thursday.
And now in 1's yesterday.
Both without their better players who are involved with the Schoolboys tournament this week.
Don't dismiss the efforts of those Rats who have toughed out a long season.

Must have been the crap surf then, or the Hobbits getting lost as they ventured beyond borders of The Shire, or perhaps they may have been detained at Immigration Control at Tarren Point or Narrabeen Bridge. :)

One wonders how they would have gone in some of the other games if they had retained the services of Jack Hayson after round 4.
Let's hope the McRaes, Nettletons and others stay local next year.

Whatever the case, it is very pleasing to seem at this point of the season with a really good win against a strong club. It is a great competition.

You are in trouble now HJ! Too many jokes about the Shire I suspect. Get a good lawyer and stay calm!

The Gallopers maintain a lead of more than 1 round of maximum points on The Corporation and it could prove to be unassailable. In turn, the Corporation nearly has a rounds maximum points lead over the Shoremen in third place.

I reckon that there will be more positional jockeying in mid table next week.

There are a maximum of 55 points available to a club each week, based on all 3 colts teams winning with a 4 try BP.

Randwick, 705 points
Sydney University, 645 points
Northern Suburbs, 594 points
Gordon, 533 points
Eastern Suburbs, 416 points (up 1 place)
Southern Districts, 407 points (down 1 place)
Eastwood, 352 points
Manly, 309 points
Parramatta, 293 points
West Harbour, 238 points
Penrith, 116 points
Warringah, 100 points#

It doesn't change the order, but the list above doesn't have the Eastwood Colts 1s points v Penrith included. For some reason it took the back office days to put those in. The correct point score for Eastwood is 382 - now correct on RugbyLink: http://www.rugbylink.com.au/common/pages/public/rv/clubchampionship.aspx?save=0&entityid=53029

Much closer to Southern and not far from Easts. The two losses to Penrith in 2s and 3s didn't help much on this front, however. Seems Eastwood colties numbers are dwindling at the bottom end as the season draws towards finals with injuries and holidays taking their toll. I wasn't out there, but I heard they struggled to find players to get 2 full teams out at Penrith Park, and had forwards filling in some crucial back line positions.

I didn't see the game, but by all reports the Two Blues really took it to Randwick and led at half time. Final score was a very respectable 26-15 to the visitors.
Dear Ryan09, the Mighty TB certainly did give the Wicks a run for their money. A converted try in the last minute made the score a little more respectable for Randwick, and there were many times after phase after phase that Parra went close to taking the lead in the 2nd half. Both forwards and backs played great rugby and any team for the rest of the season will have to beware. There is still a great chance of the Twoblues making the finals and they will be very competitive. I did give a heads up last post.

The issue with injuries, exams, work, holidays at this time of the year hits all clubs, even those that seemed to have "plenty of depth" in the early rounds.

Some clubs manage to "paper over the cracks" with AAGPS, CAS and ISA schools players moonlighting from their School programmes, often without the knowledge of the School Coaches.

Despite being 7th in the Colts Championship, the 3 Woodies teams are well placed be in the Finals series and could finish 4th - 6th in Colts 1, 6th in Colts 2, and 5th - 6th in Colts 3s.

In Colts Club Championships, I reckon there will still be a fair bit of movement in positions, or the gap between positions, in the middle of the table as the season moves on inexorably toward its conclusion. Each club has a fairly tough final few rounds, particularly given the recent resurgence in form from the M2B and Beasties, and there will be a surprise or two left to come.

^^^^AFAIK the finals are top 6 on the competition ladder after round 18.

In the first week 1 plays 6, 2 plays 5, and 3 plays 4.
In week 2 the top ranked winner plays the highest ranked loser, and the other two winners play each other.
The Grand Final is the two winners of the week games.

Match Reports - Round 14

Eastwood v Penrith @ Penrith Park

Colts 1 - bye

Colts 2
Eastwood 22 - Penrith 26
Tough task in a tough week. After playing Manly on Tuesday night and many of the players struggling with injury and sickness, several other changes were forced on the team for various reasons. So some mental toughness was required to compete against a strong Penrith team who as their club’s top team, have some very damaging players.

Tackling was identified as the key element in our approach to the game, after the dismal defensive effort at Manly Oval 5 days before. Whilst some missed tackles cost us 4 tries, there was a far more committed and gutsy effort in defence and the Penrith boys who did the damage were powerful and dangerous runners. We also put together some promising attack to score 4 tries of our own. The only difference was that all four of our tries were scored in the corner and three of theirs were near the posts.

Hooker Aripidis, prop Nazarian, lock Frogley, backrowers Caldwell and Anstee all fought hard and were prominent around the field. Half/flyhalf Croese showed his class in so many ways and flyhalf/centre McCaffrey did everything he could to lift his team.

Eastwood 22 (Joshua So, Denzel Singleton, Tim Anstey, Sam McCaffrey tries; Lachlan Croese 1 goal)
LOST TO
Penrith 26 (4 tries, 3 goals).

Players’ Player: Lachlan Croses & Mitch Caldwell.
MVP: 3 Lachlan Croese 2 Tim Anstee 1 Mitch Caldwell

Lineout time for Ed Craig playing 3rd Grade and part of 2nd Grade at T.G.Milner last week

Colts 3
Eastwood 5 - Penrith 28

This was an important match for us but we struggled for player numbers with some of our key players not attending! With numerous players playing out of position and a man short, we were fortunate that some of the second grade colts filled in as needed before playing their own game. Thanks to Sam McCaffery, Tom Nicita, Tom Hudson and Cam Goodacre.

It was another slow start with Penrith scoring first through good field position brought about by our own errors. We bounced back with a good try to Daniel Ryan from some repeated Alpha plays but ultimately Penrith had too much spark for Eastwood, which is largely a team of forwards with many playing out of position in the backline.

While the effort from the players was good, we will need to do better this week when we take on a West Harbour team that is equal with us on the ladder.

Max Beham 3, Daniel Ryan 2, Nathan Watson 1. Players player - Duncan Ryan
