Colts 1 - Round 3
Eastwood v West Harbour (Concord Oval)
Score: Draw 22-22
Match Report
Over the course of the last three weeks the team has continued to improve and were unlucky to end up with a draw on Saturday.
We started very strongly with 2 very well taken tries executed on the blind side to take an early 10-0 lead. A missed conversion attempt in front of the posts proved crucial.
The forwards set a strong platform by dominating the lineout on both our ball and the opposition throw. One of our tries came off a lineout set play that left West Harbour baffled.
As the game progressed in wet conditions, we began to struggle with the sheer size of the Wests forward pack that gradually wore us down through continuous pick and drive allied to poor discipline on our part.
Into the wind, we struggled to get out of our half for the first 15 minutes of half 2. Lots of credit must go the scrambling defensive efforts that kept us in the game.
A breakout try against the run of play left us with a 7 point lead before West Harbour powered over through some weak fringe defence to level the scores at 22-22.
Overall another improved performance but we certainly failed to convert 2 try scoring opportunities in the game. Decision making and execution of basic skills over the 80 minutes let us down. It was a good education for the players in terms of how to play wet weather football.
Try Scorers Mark Quadrio, Daniel Cosgrove, Matthew Bartholomew and James Sarks.
Conversion Rohan Zebib.
Thank you to all of the second grade players who backed up for first grade.

Match Report
Despite the better start, first points went to Wests via a PG. As the game progressed, encouraging signs from the work on set pieces, as the Woods 4 man line out saw Henry Walkerdenat the front, earn a quick thinking try. Just prior the break, Wests struck back through sustained pressure on a try line, going to the break Woods behind 5-8.
The trend continues with 2nds coming out with a stronger start in the second half. From a kick deflection, cool juggling of the ball by Cameron Daniels, found Jacob Bamford busting down the sideline in support. A timely return pass back inside saw Cameron finish off for a well-deserved try, converted by Lachlan Croese , Woods 12-8. Wests hadn’t finished with us, as they snatched the lead again, thought their forwards barging their way up the middle, try converted Woods 12 -15.
Great to see 2nds lift in the last 5 minutes though some rampaging runs from forwards - Nareg Nazarian, Michael Arapidis & Duncan Ryan. That forward lead up work gave our 10, Lachlan Croese precious time to find our centre, Mason McKertich, who crossed the line to seal 2nds first win of the season.
Best and Fairest: 3 Points Zack Simpson. 2 Points Jackson Unmack. 1 Lachlan Croese
