Randwick beat Eastwood in 1st colts 10 tries to 4
Randwick were too big and too strong in the forwards
The ref let the game flow and both sides put the kicking away and ran the ball and it was a really good game.
Samuel Muller at 10 played well behind a good pack and Giorgio Phillips and Narhan Roye made plenty of good runs with hard aggressive running
Tristan Healey the big LH scored 3 tries and set up another
Eastwood have some good backs and if there tight five can compete for the whole game they will cause opposition some headaches
Eastwood won 2nd colts pretty easy and Randwick won 3rd colts by 2 or 3 tries in a good game and good standard
Tough hot conditions for all games and Randwick certainly were fitter.

Parramatta have confirmed 1 Colt team and Penrith have 2 teams for this saeson. This means the teams in the bottom half of the comp will only play 12 matches over 18 weeks in colts 3. Tough to convince players to train when you don't have a match every 3 weeks. Where are all the juniors for this area?

Great stuff from Penrith - well done Emus- sad about Parra. I reckon those areas, in time, will be strong

Of course there may be other clubs in the bottom half besides Parramatta & Penrith , who don't have 3 colts teams , in which case the frequency of games played may be even less for those who do.

Norths and Eastwood fought out a 10 all draw in 1st colts. Couldn't help but feel that Estwood actually had the edge but just couldn't convert their opportunites. Having said that, the Norths defence was very good, with Michael Freeman being outstanding in the centres. Both sides were very commited, epitomised by Norths second rower Sam Robertson chasing down the flying Eastwood winger - twice - both times when he had a clear run - neither side had a monopoly on commitment, but my focus is on Norths so those moments sit in my mind most.

In seconds and thirds, Eastwood won both reasonably comfortably. They seem to have wealth of big forwards to draw on, and I was impressed with their ball skills and structure. The Eastwood no 10, in seconds, is very good - amazing step and speed - he just burned the defenders. Only black mark on the day was the Eastwood number 7 kicking his opponent in the head - twice, both times in front of the Eastwood touch judge who apparantly didn't see either - well, maybe next time, that's footie for you .......

Manly outplayed randwick. The Wicks fought back from 0-19 however Manly were too good at the breakdown and out wide. Randwick #7 ran all day however neglected the break down. Mark Bannon was great for the Wicks when he came on. Manly 7, 11 & 15 were very good. Wicks will have to improve - Manly are will go we'll this year if they maintain the standard.
Randwick won the 3rd & 2nds although in the seconds the nearly surr
unded a huge half time lead.

First Colts Sydney vs WestHarbour - scrappy game. SU won the game in the last few minutes 34-27. Some good hard runs / tackling from forwards of both sides. Wests let themselves down with two yellow cards (someone said three) - making life a little harder for themselves with one man down for at least quarter of the game. Were leading 14-0 at one time - then frittered the lead with penalties close to the posts. Some potential talent evident in both sides - both sides very capable. Interesting year ahead!

I thought Uni were lucky to get away with this one, Casnovian. The Wests' backs looked more dangerous and purposeful in attack. The Wests' pack, admittedly bigger, had the better of the scrum battle.

Uni Seconds followed on from their unbeaten 2011 season with an impressive win, showing more cohesion and structure than their Firsts.

I am disappointed to see the trend in colts of having as many as four fresh reserves on standby for the 1st grade team.

A team that has 4 fresh reserves will have 8 good players only getting about half a game. This is not a good thing for the players of that team, but if this tactic proves successful as it most likely will, then other teams will also feel that they will need to use fresh reserves also.

For example, how can Gordon justify having 2 fresh reserves for 1sts when their 2nds get beaten by 90 points. Surely it would have been better if those 2 players backed up after playing seconds.

And who wants to train hard all season, only to get half a game each week.
