Surprised this hasn't garnered more of a response. Congrats to NorthsNorths 22 beat Uni 20.
My heart bleeds for parramatta and Penrith
If they can't meet the criteria to field 7 teams then don't play in that comp.
Are you having a crack at Sydney Uni here, because that is what they predominantly do?Tahboy,
Cut
Only the parasites are chasing 17 year old Schoolkids now and calling it development.
Cut.
Source: http://www.rugby.com.au/tryrugby/PathwaytoGold/Background.aspxThe support, long-term development and selection of our best young players in the U15-18 year age group is seen as a critical underpinning component of the plan to ensure Australia remains a dominant world rugby power.
The Discovery Days will attract players in the 12-16 year age groups and through a schedule of education, testing, training and playing activities provide players the opportunity to showcase their talents.

Easts and Randwick have junior clubs and as are all clubs they are impacted by RL clubs. Easts and Randwick have to deal with the Roosters and Souths and to a lesser degree Sharks and Dragons and without taking a swipe at Uni we do have them as a next door club
The Eastern suburbs is not an area for young families so it is a struggle each year to maintain number but clubs who are fair dinkum work hard at getting and running colts and each year they constantly field 3 teams where Penrith and Parramatta do notand it's always something that gets raised before every season starts will Penrith and Parramatta have colts
I would never doubt volunteers efforts so I would suggest the management should get out and fix this issue
Did anyone from Penrith or parramatta go to Dubbo for the CHS trials? One of the biggest 3 days of schoolboy football with about 200 players
I saw Southern districts, Randwick , Uni out there and I think norths and Eastwood were there as well
Have Parramatta or Penrith started to think about colts next year?
I bet all the other clubs are getting active so don't blame the ARU or NSWRU.
easts and randwick do have junior clubs but nobody plays for half of them! comming up through the junior ranks recently i only played against east wallaroos from easts (who lasted 3 years but foreited alot of games) and from randwick south coogee( who lasted 2 years but were gone by u14) coogee (half a season in 14's) and eastgardens (also only lasted 3 years and were gone by u14's) and my age group was one of the better ones!! in reps i never played a randwick or easts team but had parra in our division every year and had a penrith team once or twice
dont think league really has a impact, junior league in the area is pretty small, and easts and randwick live in a demographic that follows union more anyway.
as for colts easts randwick have three private school (scots, cranbrook and waverly within spitting distance) with alot of other private schools not far away, they are well set for colts no matter what, whereas penrith and parra, as others point out are in a league strong hold so it is in the culture to drift towards league..although i do agree with you that more has to be done to promote the game in the west and get up the numbers in colts

there are some pretty wide sweeping and inaccurate comments on this thread.
Firstly, Parramatta and Penrith will struggle against league however should be encouraged as they will be rugby powerhouses eventually. The demographics favour league however there is a lot of good sportsman there. It a bit like trying to get AFL in these areas.
secondly, the Wicks are putting great effort into juniors. They have a tens tournament coming up and did well at the state championships, the colts have a lot of players
This is a Colts thread and Randwick appear to be travelling pretty well in Colts re semi final qualification. And what were the above mentioned clubs doing there? Perhaps enticing as many quality Western Sydney players as possible to play for their clubs by denigrading the efforts of the Western clubs and offering enticements like scholarships to exclusive private schools (16's). Peanuts like you won't be happy until it's a four team competition where the furthest west you have to travel is Sydney Uni and you wonder why rugby people smile when they are reminded of where Randwick are currently languishing. If you took 4 points of Parramatta each time their colts lost it still may not be enough to get Randwick into a semi final. It appears it's possible to be arrogant even when you are running last.
