I didnt insult McCabe.

I think it's great that virtually every province in Australia can put up an argument as to why there great club player should get an opportunity to ply there limited ability at a level beyond there skill set.

It makes this country great.

Exactly...

There are some valid arguments as to why Tom Carter should be playing at a Suoer Rugby level...

Exactly, both McCabe and T.Cart as well as players like A.Fianga, greet super rugby players and deserve credit for what they bring ti there team, but all would be limited at international level.

My thoughts:
  • The Crusaders deserved the win. The Tahs looked great in patches but the Crusaders looked damn good the entire match.
  • Kaplan: How many times can the Crusaders deliberately kill an attacking play in their own 10 and not get a yellow card?
  • McKibbin's kicking is solid but Pretorius should have started. There was a surprising amount of room around the ruck.
  • Tom Carter should be defending infield and not out on the wing. He is usually a god defender but doesn't seem to have the pace/agility to defend backs who have built up a bit of speed and go for the outside channel.
  • Barnes played better at fullback.
  • Robbie Freun was awesome in attack although seemed a bit suspect in defence. Who cares when he scores two and sets up a third.
  • The Crusaders supporters were good natured and well behaved, unlike some other franchises.

Also a quick straw poll of those around me indicated that no one is upset that Mumm is heading to Exeter. Some were annoyed that he hadn't left a year or two earlier. There was more appreciation for luring Hooper back.

Well, not McCabe...

He can halt a South African backline with his presence alone...

Anyways, there's a match thread for spite to erupt in...

This thread can become the next Tom Carter v Adam Byrnes morality crusade...

The box kick is only utilized when McCabe is the only back ready to receive the ball. The reason being that it is better to lose possession 20 meters down the field than a few meters behind the game line when McCabe gets gang tackled and turned over due to his poor body height.

Once again, first he'd have to get the ball... but if Genia is not kicking it away then Cooper is throwing it away...

This to and fro doesn't really work in the context of the Waratahs thread...

Particularly now that we've gone onto the Reds' deficiencies...

I know full well Kaplan has a horrid record with Tahs games & naturally as a fan you'd be worried. I just hope people are not assuming by default that because of that record the Tahs were hard done by. That's all I was saying.

He still did not referee that game equally:
  1. He allowed the Crusaders to go off their feet and kill the rucks, especially in their 22.
  2. He will not make the Crusaders throw down the centre of the lineout which means they are uncontestable.
  3. Other issues that I won't list for fear of becoming boring.
That said he was not the difference between the teams and it was one of his fairer displays. But I will ask the question again. Why do we have to have him for at least two and sometimes more games each year? Never once in all the years have we ever got a break from him. And we know that when we get him its about 90+% chance we lose. Where's the procedural fairness in that?

My frustration with Kaplan was the Tahs had 3 opportunities, hot on attack in the Red Zone and the Crusaders blatantly infringed. Now two I can cope with, but there should have been a warning after the second with the next guy in the bin

Absolutely. Someone had to go to the bin.

My understanding was that Kieran Read was warned at the first infringement because it was so cynical. By the third one just after halftime, someone had to be binned.

I have no doubts that had it been the other way around, a Tahs player would have been binned.

Really? warned after the first infringement? How.........unusual. Methinks you maybe just making that up.

Well played Tahs, the best I have seen from you all season.
Very impressed with the crowd who gave McCaw a rousing reception on his return to the paddock, well done Sydney.

I was at the game so I didn't hear what Kaplan said, but he had a long word with Read after that penalty was given.

The Tahs had made a break, were five metres out and going forward and Read gave away a really cynical penalty. Kaplan had a long word with him and it certainly warranted a warning.

It was the kind of play where you could have given a yellow card straight away without any need for a prior warning. It was a professional foul to stop the Tahs from scoring.

Anyone will get turned over when they run in to contact without the support of their forwards. everyone goes on about his body height against the Irish, when they should have been talking about the absence of any teamates at the point of contact. The Wobs pigs were at fault, they have to be there for it to be a contest. They were woeful and McCabe got the blame.
