you should contact one of the London Bookies and do one of those crazy future bets where you bet on your child winning a gold medal

No, I can't see it actually becoming reality, some of those 7s girls are super athletes, but at least she does have something to aim for. Positive role models are a good thing. Maybe if the Super W develops that can become an ambition too.

The real advantage that Rugby has over League and AFL in the womens space is the ability to play against quality international opposition. Hopefully the establishment of an international fixture calendar is on the horizon.

The most obvious choice in my opinion is a Women's equivalent of the RC. Perhaps also involving the Japanese Women's team.

Super W trophy and players from all five teams

+ Two further International fixtures for the Force Women in May!

WESTERN FORCE WOMEN TO FACE HONG KONG HEAD ON
The Western Force Women will tackle an exciting double header against Hong Kong in Perth and Busselton in May. The matches will take place at nib stadium in Perth on May 13 and in Busselton on May 18.
Western Force chief executive Nick Marvin said the games would deliver attacking and entertaining games of rugby.
“We are confident the Western Force Women will be a strong competitor in the inaugural Super W tournament, which kicks off this weekend,” Marvin said. “So confident that we have invited an international side to challenge them in Perth. We can’t wait to see the Sea of Blue out in force behind the team at both landmark fixtures!”
The Force squad features seven Wallaroos including Force captain and talented playmaker Trilleen Pomare, experienced lock Rebecca Clough and powerful backrower Vesinia Schaaf-Taufa.
The fixtures against Hong Kong highlighted the club’s commitment to building women’s’ rugby union in Western Australia, Marvin said.
Andrew Forrest AO, has previously committed to investing $2 million in grassroots rugby and elite pathways, including for female players.
“We are committed to supporting these talented athletes and growing the game for women and girls in Western Australia,” Marvin continued. “Our Force Women are some of the best on field nationally and internationally and we can’t wait to see them run out for our club.”
Hong Kong Rugby Union chief executive Robbie McRobbie said HKRU was “delighted to have both our men’s and women’s national teams travelling to Perth as part of the Force’s exciting calendar of fixtures for 2018”.
“For our women this is an opportunity to build on their participation in last year’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland, while for our men it fits into a critical period as we endeavour to qualify for Japan 2019,” McRobbie said. “We look forward to some tough rugby and hopefully putting on entertaining displays for the famous Force fans.”
The Womens’ Super W season kicks off at home this Sunday 11 March at 3pm at Harvey Field, (off Broome St) in Cottesloe where the Alcohol Think Again Western Force Women take on the Melbourne Rebels Women.
The game is free to attend and will feature entertainment from 2pm. Players from the Western Force men’s team will be in attendance.

Clough benched!

Too late for my preview now, which is a shame. They are meant to have all team lists in on Thursday.

As a women's rugby vet I'm really stoked to see the advances women's rugby is making. But especially because this is 15's. I've softened my stance on 7's greatly but I've always seen the over focus on 7's over 15's (at least in the earlier stages anyway) as not a good thing for women's rugby. It's important both forms develop together.

Women's 15's was the form of the game that pioneered female participation in the sport. The larger form of the game deserves to be preserved & respected. This comp will go some way to do just that.

As far as picking a team to follow it took some process to work it out. I don't have any former club team mates playing for WA but I do in each of the other teams! QLD & NSW both team mates moved to other clubs so their out :p This leaves ACT & VIC, both team mates only left due to uni/work & both played in grand finals with me....decisions  So, I've gone with VIC as that team mate was the most recent & ACT is my secondary. These are some of the tough decisions one must make in life. Go Rebels, go Brumbies.

NSW & QLD both look very strong. NSW fav's so I've been told. Hoping for some upsets to keep things interesting.

Yep, some balance being restored. :)

Possible pioneering question for you (although likely before your time). Some of the early records seem to have been lost for the National Women’s Championship.

Would you know who won in 96 and 97 (or know someone who has a record of it) ?

(Question is also open to any other posters)

Year Won Host
----- ------ -------------
1992 ACT Newcastle
1993 ACT Newcastle
1994 ACT* Newcastle
1995 NT Canberra
1996 ??? Sydney
1997 ??? Perth
1998 QLD Darwin
1999 NSW Perth

* Highest-placed Australian team
