It is not in my nature to be boastful and I would have been happier if some other member had raised this, but I can't help feeling pride in being very probably the first in Australian rugby to recognise and publicise what a coup it was for us to lure Totality Tony McGahan back from Ireland.

I never tired of boosting him, even when it took a very long series of Wallabies games before he was associated with a winning team. There is a lesson here - quality will out even it takes an age to get there.

I'm absolutely filthy that the Foxtel commentators cut him off just before he was about to offer his signature line: "It was the totality of it."

I'm kinda glad the ref missed it....don't need to have those negative points on my Fantasy team!!

Haven't seen it but yeah - if it's as bad as what you guys say - he'll probably get 4 weeks I reckon.I don't think he has anything prior?

Headbutting a prone player on the ground with your whole body diving on him - should be minimum 12 months.
Yeah, when I saw it in real time I thought I must have been mistaken. It looked so bad I thought he must have tripped.

Cook seemed to be a bad of a wannabe enforcer as well.

I think the Rebels have been a bit rorted on this one. The Cheetahs have two competitive games to harden them up. This will be the Rebels first and they are likely to be a bit rusty (as everyone was in their first competitive game). I reckon the Cheetahs will pounce on the rust.
Lucky for the Cheetahs that the Rebels were rusty. :)

@Bruce Ross, you don't like Kafer or Kearnsy? Is it because you think they're ordinary commentators? Or simply due to the fact they played for the Great Randwick Rugby Club?

@bruce ross, you aren't a fan of Rod Kafer?
I'll give him this much, Filth. While ever you've got Phil Kearns and Greg Martin around, he's not bottom of the bin.

I had a father-in-law who perpetually claimed that the refs were robbing St George league team right through the period when they won about 15 Premierships on the trot. His spirit lives on in a new generation of clowns. Thankfully he doesn't.

Kafer was described as one of 'the finer rugby minds'. How are the Students looking this year? I would put this in the Shute Shield thread, but then the usual shit-bagging would occur! Hope the Wicks have a better season.

I answered your post on this point, Filth, before you re-posted. I couldn't remember Kafer being associated with Randwick, so I checked Wikipedia and there is no mention of it there.

I can't recall me ever bagging Randwick on this forum. I have always admired the bastards. I can recall going to watch them play the All Blacks at Coogee, and years prior to that I used to religiously come up from Wollongong to watch the Shute Shield Grand Finals during their golden era.

I was a great admirer of their style of play and their skills, but not their sneering, bigotted supporters. Fortunately, one way or another, they have moved on, and the Club now has a lot of enthusiasts busily working to rebuild a great club.

Loved the Rebels tonight, very entertaining to watch!

Up front, Leafa, Jones and Higgers were great, McMahon looked at home as well.

In the backs Inman was strong, Burgess was excellent, and Tom English showed he's got a big season ahead.

Carn the Rebels!!

Good performance by the Rebels, but much like the Tahs last week they didn't beat much. Cheetahs were horrible.

But clearly a step up from last year. Forwards hunted as a pack, backs attacked well. An upper mid-table finish is a realistic hope.

He coached the rugby team, while I was in school. Blokes used to throw up in sixth period, because they were so nervous about training. If players made too many mistakes, he make them sit out and watch because they were lowering standards. Proper hard bastard is Dumper.

I didn't expect this. The Cheetahs were bad, but we were good (which is awesome).

I hoped and expected a close win over a middle of the table Cheetahs side but what I got was the destruction of a side who will probably go bottom 1/3 of the table.

Where does that put the Rebs? Only time will tell.

Higginbotham just has that mercurial touch. If only someone had picked him at 13 in junior rugby.

I don't think he played junior rugby, and arguably therein lies the problem.

Tell us more, I'd be interested to hear about his origins.
