Super Rugby Rnd 4 Reds v Drua, Suncorp Satdium 12/3 @ 6:45pm AEST

Wilson

Reds hosting the Drua at Suncorp on Saturday, kick off at 6:45pm.

Lukhan Salakia-Loto added to the Reds injury list and it looks like Wright is still a week off coming back so I think we should see a new back row or lock debut off the bench. Probably one of Connor Vest, Keynan Tauakipulu or Lopeti Faifua.

Yeah, I reference the Draft Rugby casualty ward they put out every round to check but it's never entirely up to date and so much of this info is in a throw away line at the end of an article about something else (e.g. the Wright situation quoted below).

ASY (Angus Scott-Young) is on the same timeline as Tate - round 8ish return. I don't remember Faifua getting any game time but he's the only other Lock listed in the squad. Overall that side looks pretty good though if it was a game we were less favoured in I'd prefer Vest to Tauakipulu. Tauakipulu looked a few years off being ready in the trial. That said he's got at least a development contract where as Vest seems to be sitting in that shadow squad of club players we really haven't got much detail on. I guess we could also see Wilson Blyth as he also has a development contract, but I'd be surprised if he leap frogged Tauakipulu and Faifua.

There might still be a chance Wright is back, but this is the latest from Jim Tucker:
Flanker Liam Wright (shoulder) may also be another week away.

I guess we'll find out one way or another in a couple of hours.

FIJIAN DRUA (1-15): Kaliopasi Uluilakepa, Mesulame Dolokoto, Samuela Tawake, Isoa Nasilasila, Ratu Rotuisolia, Meli Derenalagi (c), Vilive Miramira, Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta, Peni Matawalu, Teti Tela, Vinaya Habosi, Kalaveti Ravouvou, Apisalome Vota, Selesitino Ravutaumada, Baden Kerr

RESERVES: Zuriel Togiatama, Jone Koroiduadua, Manasa Saulo, Sorovakatini Tuifagalele, Joseva Tamani, Frank Lomani, Jona Mataiciwa, Onisi Ratave

Teti Tela gets the start at 10 with Baden Kerr at 15, Frank Lomani is straight onto the bench what must only be a week or so after joining the squad. I thought the Drua looked much better with Tela (and Muntz) at 10 last week so it's good to see him get the start.

Be interested to see how Connor Vest goes.

The performance of Ryan Smith and impending departure of Salakai-Loto must surely be a huge motivator for a guy like Vest. I’ve only seen small amounts of him but he seems a whole hearted, gutsy type of player who Thorn would probably love to reward if he shows some capability.

I guess this is seen as the safe game to trial Petaia at fullback.
Campbell is currently the form 15 of the Australian sides and then gets shunted to the wing where he is no where near as effective. I don’t like this selection at all. What happens if Jordan has a good game , who gets picked the next week. He is very hot and cold in my opinion and is well behind Campbell as a 15.

Yeah, I must admit I find it hard to follow Thorn giving Campbell a big plug to the Wallabies selectors and then moving him to wing. I get they want to give Petaia exposure there but it just seems to be pushing Jocks chances aside.

I guess Thorn has been pretty consistent though on developing depth in each position, so I do see some logic there.

I hope Petaia’s hammys are okay. He looked to be struggling before he left the field last weekend.

Maybe Thorn has been asked to give Petaia some time at 15 by our national coach?
If so, seems like a good game to do it.
The two could easily be interchanged during the game, but yeah must be a bit of a kick in the guts for Campbell, he couldn’t really be doing any more at present.

Teti had a great game against Rebels. Best I have seen him play in years.
