Super Rugby Rnd 10: Reds v Brumbies 5 Sept

Valetini's opposite was man of the match.

Yep, bang on.

Hard to get my head around these comments. Makes me think some people on here value an odd bit off dynamism over consistent 80 minute rugby player.

Valetini put a hit on a few of the small blokes, and got cut down all day?

What are people seeing in him that I am missing?

We outplayed the Brumbies across every position on the field. Even when Tate was moved to wing, he continued to outplay his opposition. We had a few minor mistakes but on whole we looked upbeat and dangerous. No need to change the starting team for the next 2 weeks. On ya Reds.

Really enjoyed that game and the way the Reds are coming through. When you consider guys like Wilson, McReight, Blyth, McDermott et al are still very early in their rugby careers and are going to get significantly better over the next 2-3 seasons the future does look very promising. I really do hope they can keep this group together for at least a couple of years, but I fear what the impact of COVID will be.

Campbell needs to be fullback and not moved. He is all class at fullback and makes such a difference. He’s not even half the player on the wing.

Big weekend next weekend for this team.

I thought that was one of Valetini’s best games I’ve seen him play. I thought his involvement level was a fair bit up on what I’ve seen from him generally and he did have a number of very good contributions.

But I’d still have him well behind the likes of Wright, Wilson & Samu on the back row pecking order. Certainly in yesterday’s game there is no way he outplayed Wright.

He's a dud.

When you read his rugby journey - you realise that he sort of conned his way into professional coaching.

He has a role in elite rugby, but it most likely is not as head coach.

Rebels been too inconsistent for years. Wessels needs to go. Wonder when his contract up for renewal.

Agreed, 2 weeks ago i was asking why his name keeps getting thrown about as a wallaby starter because i just wasn’t seeing it. Yet last night was the best I’d seen him play with a few key involvements in defence and attack, however despite his good game Wright was the deserved MOTM.

On the Brumbies, i think they’re feeling the impact of chopping and changing their team so much, they just lack the cohesiveness the partnerships they should have at this point in the season.

Kuridrani was woeful, but he also hasn’t played with these guys for a few weeks, and whilst Kuenzel probably had his worst game i cant help but feel sorry for the bloke since he was playing with his 3rd different halfback in as many weeks.

Interesting to note that not 1 team won a genuine interstate away match because the travel conditions on the day are insane. Wonder if that played a role in the Brums performance. Only time a team won after hopping on a plane was the Tahs against Force, but a little harsh of the Force to call that a home match.

I wouldn't consider Wright or Wilson small..........

I think the best example of his worth is when he counter rucked both of those guys off the Reds ruck for a successful turnover.

He had a number of dominant tackles, particularly in the first half.

You'd have to think this is a big factor.

Rebels also struggled to click with their nth halves combination.

Yep, it's why I don't see White starting for the final, and I don't think the Brumbies will suffer dropping Kuridrani and starting with Kata.

One player I'm surprised the Brumbies haven't given more minutes to in the last few weeks is Mack Hansen.

was that he only successful turnover for the match? Stats indicate he only got one?

I don't remember the turnover you're referencing, but if he were doing that consistently throughout the match then it's a different story. Likewise when he threw McDermott too the ground in a tackle, if he were consistently tackling like that then you simply couldn't ignore the bloke.

Whilst that was the best match i've seen Valetini play, i just dont see a consistent presence from him throughout the game or season, he seems to go missing for large chunks.

Sure, he has some good moments, but his overall involvement level is low.

He’ll make a great highlights clip.
