Super Rugby Rnd 1 2020: Sunwolves v Rebels

To be honest, the Rebels still have a really good roster on paper, and last year had a fantastic one. There’s wallabies and experience across the squad, people expect more because of the individual talent which exists, it’s just just that they fail to put I together collectively
Think you overrate them a bit and obviously there is a poor culture in Melbourne

You've got to concede that they are looking worst than the sum of their parts.

Their attacking shape just looks poor. They really haven't adjusted to the Sunwolves going hard at the breakdown. At every opportunity to apply pressure they would do something daft to let off the pressure.

Kellaway looks like the genius he was destined to be again!

Will Wessels last the season?

Might be so if things don't change. He's spoken recently about some of his coaching challenges so hopefully that reflection results in some change this season because I feel they should still be a lot better than this.

No they look like they always do. They have some players capable of moments of brilliance but not one player capable of playing consistently week in week out. Look at how all the Sunwolves bought into what why we’re trying to achieve and played as a team that is something we never see from the Rebels. We will lose by 50 plus next week to the brumbies

I think that’s what he was suggesting, they are looking worst than the sum of their parts.. They have quality wallabies and super rugby player in their squad, vastly more then the Sunwolves, but the Sunwolves play together much better as a team then the Rebels.

Just ridiculous what he did in those trials + NRC.
Yeah who would of ever thought resting all the players you are going to rely upon in the season proper was a bad idea? I mean developing those players and giving them some continuity in their combinations is a ridiculous idea when you can just play Dewar players who 95% of them aren’t going to ever make the step up

DHP is reasonably consistent. The rest....

Look there are some good players but I think some of them are a bit overrated

So what are the positives?

- They were able to claw back to a more respectable scoreline after a poor start. That game could have gotten embarrassing

- Gift try aside, Kellaway looks to have some pace
- Nisarani had some good carries and generally had a decent game as did Korobeti working hard as usual

- DHP wasn't too bad, good under the highball and proved a challenge for defence at times with some of his slippery runs
- Scrum was operating well, though mighty hard to say how it will fair against a stronger team
- There is a lot to work on, so the upside is they should be able to produce a performance much better than this
