There are direct flights to Jo'burg from Sao Paulo on South African Airways which I think was the original plan. Then a domestic flight down to Cape Town.

But if SAA won't let you board, then bit of extra flying to be done.

Should have been 18 hours it'll now be at least 24.

So it seems like the Reds are still on their way to London.

Losing an entire day in what is already a short turnaround is pretty tough on their preparation for the Stormers game.

I can't help but notice that these things happen far more frequently with South Africa / to South African advantage than any one else.
Anyone else able to recall of these types of things happening with other nations?

It's a Brazil requirement. They weren't allowed to enter Brazil and got turned around at the airport it seems.

Brazil is in the midst of a Yellow Fever outbreak and now makes tourists get vaccinated. It is a recent requirement to enter the country I believe.

I don't think it has anything to do with South Africa.

Castle must go for this. It's ridiculous.

Fucking disgraceful. How does that happen !

Whoever at the Reds who manages these things needs to be reamed out.

The team has to fly at least another 11 hours extra and then try and win a rugby game.

Someone should be biting down hard on a leather belt

The CDC recommends yellow fever vaccinations depending on area travelled rather then a blanket vaccination for everyone due to shortage of supply

That's not South Africa's rule though.

"In line with the International Health Regulations, 2005 South Africa requires a valid yellow fever certificate from all citizens and non citizens over one year of age:
· Travelling from a yellow fever risk country; or
· Having been in transit exceeding 12 hours, through the airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission."
List of countries for which a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into South Africa:

CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA
(including)
Argentina
Brazil

They better get on to SA Customs/Immigration asap to sort this out.

Flying up to London doesn't mean you're suddenly not coming from Arg. Still going to have the passport stamps showing they were there etc, plus all the news stories now...

I am flying to Africa through Jo'burg then Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia soon and the very first thing that was brought to our attention was the SA requirement for Yellow Fever certificate coming back from Zambia (a YF risk) to go through Jo'burg and then home, even though the area in Zambia involved has little / no YF risk. It's a YF "country". It beggars belief that admin of any professional sporting organisation travelling regularly in and out of SA does not know of this requirement regarding YF. It's a massive stuff up.

It's an interesting one because the World Health Organisation who defines the International Health Regulations also recommend against getting vaccination if you are remaining in Buenos Aires

-Recommended for travellers over 9 months of age going to Corrientes and Misiones Provinces
-Generally not recommended for travellers going to Formosa Province and designated areas (Map) of Chaco, Jujuy and Salta Provinces
-Not recommended for travellers whose itineraries are limited to areas and provinces not listed above.

Plus however long they were in Brazil (hopefully sorted the flight out quick <12 hours, because there is an argument for BA, but Brazil is pretty black and white)

It would be unfortunate for the Reds in this type of situation if high level members of our federal government had spent the last week pissing off the South African government wouldn't it?
