Super Rugby Rd 3: Brumbies v Waratahs in Canberra

I don't think even my experience could turn Berry's impression of the scrum.

Note when Slipper went off, the scrums seemed to improve and the penalties stopped  Maybe they weren't willing to try and game the ref ;)

That's not what I saw.

Maybe Slipper just had it over HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) ... Slippers back for the second half

I know. And it will be hard as a Reds fan to accept I'm right. Don't fight it.

Haha! Actually I respect your thoughts on reffing and the scrum. I can still come to my own thoughts though. I re-visit scrums in 30-40 mins tomorrow and check.

If the Brumbies pack was driving forward cohesively I'd absolutely back you, particularly given the second row we have right now. But the pictures don't say that - Slipper has dropped his bind once (reset) and angled twice to get penalties.

The Tahs attempted to push and the Brumbies turned sideways under pressure. I don't know why because with Swain and Frost in the second row, and the Wallaby front row you've got, you should be able to overpower us. Maybe conditions are making a difference, but I just think it's easier for the Brumbies to put the perception in the ref's mind and use it all game.

It's smart.

As a neutral I’m really enjoying this. Not always pretty, but both teams rolling their sleeves up.

Brumbies seem to be throwing a fair bit in off the ball. Probably lucky Swinton isn’t playing. He’d have either got carded or his head would’ve exploded by now.

Work smarter not harder.. I'm sure Slippers using all his Wylie self too get an advantage right or wrong..

Just have a look at the one at game clock 24:07 - that is probably my biggest gripe. The others are just me being old and cranky that the Tahs are a season or two away from being able to compete with the Reds and Brumbies.

And that ex-halfback refs don't know anything about scrums ;)

If the Tahs were smarter they'd lay off the lazy high tackles that give away territory. Otherwise I think the defensive system is working OK

Hah. I'll check the scrum when Slipper goes off.

The penalty count is 4:5. I posted the territory and possession stats above. It.s not just ground gained from penalties.

No but the places it happens - tram tracks near halfway twice now. Easy kick to the 22.
