Naturally going to be higher as no Rebels fixtures to drag the number down.....

Genuinley though Mick, If you're going to argue that cutting the Rebels boosted crowd averages because they were dragging the numbers down, then shouldn't the opposite be true for performance?
By your own admission, the Rebels made the finals last year — so their removal should’ve hurt win rates and table position. But it hasn’t. In fact, both have improved.

OK so after my failed attempt to list the possible SF permutations, stuff.co.nz have come up with this:

Scenario 1

Winners: Chiefs, Crusaders and Brumbies

Semifinals: Chiefs (1) v Hurricanes (4), Crusaders (2) v Brumbies (3)

Scenario 2

Winners: Chiefs, Crusaders and Hurricanes

Semifinals: Chiefs (1) v Brumbies (4), Crusaders (2) v Hurricanes (3)

Scenario 3

Winners: Chiefs, Reds and Brumbies

Semifinals: Chiefs (1) v Reds (4), Brumbies (2) v Crusaders (3)

Scenario 4

Winners: Chiefs, Reds and Hurricanes

Semifinals: Chiefs (1) v Reds (4), Hurricanes (2) v Crusaders (3)

Scenario 5

Winners: Blues, Crusaders and Brumbies

Semifinals: Crusaders (1) v Blues (4), Chiefs (2) v Brumbies (3)

Scenario 6

Winners: Blues, Crusaders and Hurricanes

Semifinals: Crusaders (1) v Blues (4), Chiefs (2) v Hurricanes (3)

Scenario 7

Winners: Blues, Reds and Brumbies

Semifinals: Brumbies (1) v Blues (4), Chiefs (2) v Reds (3)

Scenario 8

Winners: Blues, Reds and Hurricanes

Semifinals: Hurricanes (1) v Blues (4), Chiefs (2) v Reds (3)

Sounds good to me. Brumbies and Reds get up in the semis. Should be doable!

Did the Chiefs throw that game in the hope that the Canes would win and provide an all NZ semi final series?

I don't believe that, but please discuss...

In today's NZHurld

"Super Rugby Pacific chief executive Jack Mesley has confirmed plans are in motion to bring back Super Round for the 2026 season with Christchurch’s new stadium, Te Kaha, in line to host the event over Anzac weekend."

As I'm in Aus the rest is geo-restricted but I doubt there's much more of immediate interest other than maybe speculation wrt other possible venues?

As someone who's never been to ChCh, what's it like as 'a destination' for such an event? The appeal about Super Round in Melbourne (and Magic Round in Brisbane) is that the rugby can very easily become almost secondary to the rest of the weekend's activities.

I think next year is too soon. The accommodation & hospitality precinct around the stadium is literally work in progress & the existing infrastructure is too far away compared to Brisbane or Melbourne.

I was down there a couple of weeks back, plenty of accom etc around aerea, but didn't look at hospitality etc. I would assume all that stuff is years away?

Not sure about years but hard to see too many bars & restaurants opening until the stadium is largely complete & people can get in & out properly. Google maps indicates hospo is still mostly in Manchester St & back towards the city centre.

TBH if a developing precinct gives Christchurch the impetus to bid for Super Round then go for it, I think. To do this on ANZAC weekend is long overdue in my opinion.

OTOH let's hope that a risk of being premature doesn't simply lead to ongoing bitching from fans. Christchurch (or anywhere else for that matter) needs to make sure they don't fire blanks for this.

Is it difficult to get from the CBD to the stadium? Its not sounding like a great gig with limited accommodation and bars around the stadium.

Unless it's Auckland or Wellington I'm not quite sure there's going to be enough people willing to head there, especially from Australia. Brisbane has one direct flight to/from Christchurch.

Auckland really should build that stadium in the harbour area.

It's a bit of a hike atm compared to Suncorp but that will change as new venues become operational, it's just a matter of how quickly that happens.

As far as Aux goes their Council have pretty much committed to another Eden Park partial rebuild.

Yep but it is in reality a 10 15 minute (at most) to city centre. We were 2 blocks from new stadium and it was just as close to city as us, and took me and Mrs (a couple of old buggers taking time) about 10 minutes walk to cathedral etc.

It would be proably less than from say Queen St in Brissy to Suncorp. Bit of a guess as I never tried walking from Queen St to Suncorp, to bloody far!!

Though I not sure I would be keen on weekend events there for a while anyway (I not a Chch fan anyway)
