Super Rugby Final: Crusaders v Chiefs

The Chiefs really did buckle under the pressure in the second half, but equally the Cru just bludgeoned them into submission in the tight-loose and aerially. They kicked the air out of the ball, but they did it very effectively (especially the kick chase) and the Tribe had no answer. They just couldn't get any consistent field position from which they could launch meaningful attack. Getting their scrum whistled off the park didn't help either.

The absolute state of it.

2021: lose final 24-13
2022: lose semi-final 20-7
2023: lose final 25-20
2024: lose final 41-10
2025: lose final 16-12

It happened in the second half against the Blues as well. That match alone should've silenced any calls for Leroy Carter to make the ABs. I only watched the final 10 minutes of the final, but, if he did it again throughout the match, then that's that.

Some thoughts

- Chiefs are absolute bottlers and DMac leads the charge

- Reihana looks exactly the type of 10 that ABs are crying out for but Razor is too much of a pussy to make a tough call so he won't get a proper look-in any time this year. Reihana has the best kicking game in the country.

- Carter was very disappointing

- Tupaea clearly outplayed Havili in a losing effort - if Havili makes the ABs it's a joke.

- how Jacobson was let back on the field was ridiculous.

- Wouldn't mind seeing Lio Willie be given a go - on the small side but he gets stuck in.

- AB props look good - Williams and Newell were excellent.

- George Bell has the best job in NZ - barely play - be the 3rd best hooker at Crusaders and still make ABs.

- enjoyed the battle between Vaai and Scott Barrett

- glad that's the last final at that shithole venue.

Surely at 30 thats the end of his AB 1st 5 narrative. Cantabs brilliantly cut off his time to jink about sideways and he was fucked and lost it in his head

absolute laughing stock.

Him and Braying Eyyore ffs.

AB midfield for the next 5 years should be Higgins and Proctor. They even sound like a law firm goddamnit

4th official or team physio or whover rubberstamped that should find themsleves in a CTE lawsuit 10 years from now. Bloke was lights out on his feet

after a harsh start in the scrums Newell really came back to show his mettle on a big stage
