Super Rugby AU Rnd 3: Brumbies vs Rebels, Sat 06/03/21

Two bonus points from the 2 hardest games of the season. That’s a moderate return. If we can pick up some points next weekend as well that would mean just need to win 3/4 home games and beat the Tahs away to basically make the finals again. With another 3/4 top line players returning (Orr, Gibbon, DHP, Naisarani, Uelese) and Sordoni and Callas building into the team environment, it looks positive going forward.

Worse case scenario if neither is fit enough, who is next choice?
Tuqiri would be next off the bench but he’s also injured. Most likely would start with Anae at LH, switch Sordoni to start and drop Eloff to TH bench with Kailea joining him on the bench.

Despite tonight’s showing Sordoni is actually a good scrummager. Brums obviously did plenty of work on him hitting and pushing early, hence they held entering the ball early into the scrum and waiting for ref to penalize for early push. Hopefully he learns off that

Brumbies scrum & maul tactics were great. Played Damon like a fiddle.

Well done Brumbies for the win, but two things stuck in my mind regarding the refereeing.

Number one is the penalty try awarded off a rolling maul that had progressed beyond the try line . Surely you are allowed to collapse that , what else can you do once they are over the line ?

Number two is the penalty kick to win was awarded about a metre at least into the Brumbies half , he took it bang on the half way and it got over by a bees’ dick . The ref has to make a mark .

Anyway great game , well done all .

Maybe White might have some pressure on him ?

DAY-mon Murphy is simply not up to this standard. He was average on the World Sevens tour, and he's been rubbish the last two games.

Both he and Berry have been sucked in by the Brumbies illegally wheeling on their own feed to draw a penalty as "dominance". It is laughable, particularly when they're under so much pressure at other times.

Thought Murphy got the dangerous tackle incidents right though.

Ala'alatoa's red card was right. Hardwick should have been a penalty for lifting, which he did and that was the sole reason McInerney hit the ground shoulder first.

Hodge probably should have been a YC for his challenge on Banks (was it?) in the air.

It's not the way I saw things. Sordoni's bind was a sign of weakness and he wasn't up to his opponent. White does frustrate opposing packs with his ball placement. I do think refs should control that White delay - but Sordoni's issue was basically Sordoni.

I can't think of a position where the Brumby was better than his opposite. At the same time I can't say they didn't deserve it.

Unlucky Rebels.

Really? Props, one lock, no 8, outside centre, fullback and one wing..........

Rebels props ran the ball well in open space, but got munted in the real front row work.

It definitely wasn’t in the locks or either wing. But yes it’s incorrect for anyone to say no position outplayed each other. It was pretty even across the board.
