Jan Serfontein in great form, carving up the Sharks defense. Hope he keep this for the All Blacks. Also a decent start for Willemse. I except a lot from him.

Sad Farewell to the Kings. I think they have a shitload of potential. They play a balanced game, look extremely fit and well coached. They have played some quality rugby this season and were on the up as a young franchise. Much more than can be said of the Shite we have seen from other franchises.

Bulls strike me as the Tahs of SA. No matter how shite they are, they will always be a protected species.

I'm not convinced that Port Elizabeth is a commercially sustainable base for a pro rugby franchise. Happy to be proven wrong.

Doesn't stop me from being impressed with what they have achieved. I will miss them.

God knows with the Bulls, my second team (tough year!). Really like Marais but you have to say he's lucky to keep his job running the Blue Bulls and not Limpopo. Ha ha ha!

Hurricanes at near enough to full strength, only missing reserve hooker Leni Apisai (ankle injury) & all seven of their AB lining up:

(15-1): Jordie Barrett, Nehe Milner-Skudder, Vince Aso, Ngani Laumape, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara (c), Brad Shields, Ardie Savea, Vaea Fifita, Sam Lousi, Mark Abbott, Jeff To'omaga-Allen, Ricky Riccitelli, Ben May. Reserves (16-23): James O'Reilly, Chris Eves, Loni Uhila, Reed Prinsep, Callum Gibbins, Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi, Wes Goosen, Cory Jane.

The more I think about this game the less sure I am that the CruSadists can get the job done without their AB tight five. Stoopid June break may be their undoing, just as it was last year.

Crusaders (15-1): Israel Dagg, Seta Tamanivalu, Jack Goodhue, David Havili, George Bridge, Richie Mo'unga, Bryn Hall, Kieran Read, Matt Todd (captain), Jordan Taufua, Scott Barrett, Luke Romano, Michael Ala'alatoa, Ben Funnell, Wyatt Crockett. Reserves (16-23): Andrew Makalio, Tim Perry, Oliver Jager, Sam Whitelock, Jed Brown, Mitchell Drummond, Mitchell Hunt, Sean Wainui.

Wasn't expecting Read & Whitelock given their minutes in the B&IL Tests but still not overly optimistic of a win. Too close to call, shall we say.

EDIT: Ryan Crotty not considered this week but expected back next week.

Highlanders may not know if they are going up the road to CHCH or to Africa till Sunday morning. Not sure which option worries me the most.

^^^^^^^^ If a NZ team is going to take this out their road to the GF has to run through Canberra, Christchurch, or possibly both. Any of them are capable of going to SA & winning a One-off but it's unlikely they could then come back to Australasia & win again the following week.

EDIT: and there's obviously zero chance of anyone winning in Cape Town, Christchurch & Jo'burg in successive weeks. Cape Town, Jo'burg, Christchurch, maybe.

Saw a piece on AllOutRugby speculating the Lions might run out a "B" side in order to manipulate the QF draw (throw the game & get the Sharks again, basically). Clearly they haven't...
