The 36k at Newlands is disgusting. 55k use to be filled easily with a crappy WP team. But they play like hell thx to the 16th man. The Stormers as well. One thing they feed of is the crowd

I think this has a lot to do with the opposition on the day. Don't forget all the other games this weekend were local derbies. The general feeling is that the Hurricanes are expected to finish last in the NZ Conference and have lost many of their All Blacks. I'm sure you will see a much larger crowd at Newlands when the Stormers host the Sharks this weekend.

What is the 16th man by the way?

I realise why they play at Homebush, but the Tahs should only play at SFS until they start averaging bigger crowds, because they're simply not going to get big enough crowds even for the more popular matches...

Think its a good figure for round 1. Average per country
SA 35,129
Aus 23,141
NZ 22,500

Average for round 1: 28,096

From my point of view for the good of rugby I would rather see a much larger crowd in a half full stadium. But when attending a game I would much rather be in packed smaller ground.

It's a small point and doesn't really matter in the overall context but for those that are reporting very round (assuming capacity) figures those are presumably tickets sold rather than actual attendance. It's very rare that absolutely everyone with a ticket actually shows up or passes their ticket to someone who will go. Normally at least a handful of 15-30k ppl wouldn't show for whatever reason.

It is still bad for Newlands where the people fall over each other to get a ticket for a game. I think it is the season tickets that is the culprit there

Maties vs Tukkies on Stellenbosch is a much better option. ;)

We'll see this weekend when the Sharks visit Slaapstad.

It is since they made the stadiums all seaters did away with the standing tickets and sell more season tickets. A lot of old ballies from Rondebosch and Newlands have season tickets and they only go and watch 4 or 5 times a year when they go to those posh country clubs next door. Same with the cricket.

There is still standing tickets in front of the Main and Craven Stands. Duik bote (bars) and all.

I like attending half full games so I can get to the bar, food and toilet within the half time break and not miss any of the game.

What are the odds of 2 stadiums having exactly 30000 and 15000, these seem like very convenient numbers and when I see this I start to doubt if they are true

Didn't FIFA convert it to a full seater? To my understanding it is a must for the stadium to be a all seater to meet FIFA's requirements.

Or did they close that off because I notice the capacity said 51k where they filled it up with 55k + 56k at times. Craven stand was 5k if I can still remember it correctly so it would make sense.
