Super AU R2 - Reds v Rebels Suncorp Stadium 26/2

Chrissssst. Game management by the reds was horrendous. Pick and drive why wasn't it used.

Agree with you but in fairness the Rebels forwards were monsters on ruck defence. Reds must have been playing to avoid that. But their game plan didn’t execute like they had hoped. Petaia and Daugunu both with some issues out wide didn’t help.

Well credit to the Reds fans for coming back for a victory with only 14 players on the field for the last 20mins

Helluva game by Richard Hardwick.

Shit luck for the Rebels but their defensive commitment was pretty good and gave them every chance

Reds set piece looking the goods

Shit house from the Rebels. Got dominated in the last 20 a man up and kept kicking away possession.
What are you talking about?

The bench included no locks, both props were on debut one of which is on an academy contract. The hooker had very little experience, the reserve winger was a half back and the other outside back that came on is 19 and made his debut. Even the starting 13 was on debut and the starting LH is more a TH but can fill in if needed. You’re quickly becoming the Alan Jones of GAGR

We can also add Uelese getting injured so Craig had to come on early and Wilkin was great until injured at half time.

Bloody good effort against a very good reds team.

Ball handling poor from the reds out there tonight. Left a lot of points on the field. They have some nice shape which creates plenty of opportunities however they just couldn't convert them tonight.

Rebels controlled the game very well. To'omua was smart. Not the most exciting footy from them. Would have been a bit different if the ref hadn't blown his whistle every 30 seconds.

Rebels backrow really stood up. They were smart and played well to the ref's whistle. Slowed down the Reds ball constantly.

Well done Reds, you didn’t play your best but remained the most likely so deserved the small margin and win at the end of the game.

Given the challenges with the squad and prep for the game, the Rebels showed they will be a difficult team to beat each week.

Who cares all you are doing is making excuses. They were in a winning position a man up and kept kicking away the ball. It was hard to watch. Honourable loses get you nowhere

There is excuses and then there is reality. QLD deserved the win tonight but equally the Rebels deserve some kudos.

I’m with you Rebels3. Happy we got in a position to win, would’ve taken that at 7.45.
Couldn’t disagree more. You can never accept losing, you talk about inexperience but winning games like that is how you gain experience as a squad. Will never be happy watching a losing effort

Damn well proud of the Rebels, should've won that but good work in a game I expected to lose 20+. First game of the season at a hostile stadium after being on the road for weeks and having two hours notice to pack everything you need. Wessels might be maturing. Desperately need our injured players back. Our forward pack of no-namers were impressive. Uelese looks fragile yet somehow fatter and with Eloff and Pone there we have an old school fatty front row. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us.

Reds were disappointing despite the win, are they a confidence side? Tupou looked unfit despite only playing half, lazy in the ruck and elsewhere. I guess the handling can be attributed to playing a game in Brisbane in February.

Ref was bizarre. Tried to stamp his authority but insecure in his decisions. Oh well, he'll improve too.

Ed Craig was good and is very experienced. Has played Super Rugby, Australian Under 20's with Jordan Uselese, and Australian Schoolboys, as well as Senior Rugby with Eastwood since he left school. Read his wikipedia page if you are not from Eastwood.

Very solid tonight. The Rebels lineout losses should be attributed to the Lifters timing and the Jumpers themselves.

@Rebels3, COVID-19 has impacted the Rebels squad. Coach Wessels has had his hands tied and named his best squad available, notwithstanding the points above made by Rebels3.

Steve Cummings (Hills Sports High School) looked the goods tonight. Should be with the Waratahs but their talent retention program is so crap that they need to talk to John West. Well picked up Rebels.

Honorable losses like that get you a defensive bonus point, while limiting the damage on the overall point tally. So I wouldn't say that gets you nowhere. Their season is still alive. And from a game management perspective you can argue they did a lot better than the Reds. They were within 2 meters of winning at the end (in spite of fielding a young and inexperienced team).

Now, credit to the Reds for shaping up in the last 20 minutes, with great attacking plays. Without the handling errors and with better finishing they would have been well ahead, while a man down. Top notch set piece, too.

The reality is we were a man up with a lead and we lost. They are games we need to close out we can’t keep losing

Yeah, when I looked at the team and in particular the bench I thought who are they? It really showed as we didn't get much from out subs at all. First 15 did really well even if the attack lacked any penetration.

The subs are going to need to get much better. If your picked , raw or not you have to stand up and tonight they didn't.
