My understanding is that 3 of the bubble clubs are against the idea of being in division 2, however, I’ll not name them.

One of them would be Harlequins based on Ned's statement above
I'd say Epping are happy to consolidate in Div 3. Same with Beecroft.
Knox and Barker would probably love to be in the same division, given the school Old Boys' rivalry. And maybe they could get a Third Grade on the field if the level of competition isn't quite as hot as 2nd Div.

So maybe Div 2 stays at 6? All those clubs have Colts and can probably get to 4 Grades most weeks.

Division 3 would then become Beecroft, Epping, Knox, Manly Savers, Old Barker, Old Ignatians, Sydney Harbour, Sydney Harlequins.

Eight clubs and a fairly good level of competition, with a bit of a question over around Colts and Thirds here and there that could be addressed by Halligan/Radford backfill.

TBH I don't have the full picture. Was hoping to learn more this Friday at the Tahs game, but a death in the family has prevented my attendance.

Briars won't get to 4 grades, and I'd say valley getting there is speculation based on HAC folding. I think all those clubs would take a 7-team comp with byes rather than the prospect of playing eachother 3 times in a year. Tough sell for a club like valley, who between Newport and UNSW would face 3 long bus trips in a season. Briars and Lindfield arent short trips for them either.

Newport are no certainty of getting 4 grades either from what I've heard....

A couple of boys at Harlequins are very much in the know and the latest report is HAC are still alive. They have been kicked out of using the grounds by the Uni but started training tonight tat Tamplin Field, Hobartville. Peter Sneaky Hewett is putting in a lot of work for them to get them back.

I think I have had a blonde moment. I meant to refer to Paul Hewett. A crafty 9 with the ability to play 10 or 15, Paul built his game around smarts and having a good footy brain. An even better bloke off the field as well.

Played his 400th last year didn't he?

Or they could end up getting only 2 of those trips if they ask nicely? :)

Nothing is a short trip for some clubs like Valley or Newport, but yes 7 would be the preferred minimum

It looks like Drummoyne have been on the phone this off season. They hammered Forest 31-0 in the opener at Kiama.

Newport pumped them 38-0 at the Rats Sevens the weekend before Forest gave a better account of themselve sin the final but still went down to the Breakers.
