What's your guess as to the top 22 of the Stormers this year PB - and what is the difference between that and the best 22 for the Super14 last year?

Not many changes at the Stormers and only the the right side of the ledger Oom Lee.

Here is my geuss from the team that played in the 2010 final:
1 Wicus Blaauw
2 Tiaan Liebenberg
3 Brok Harris (CJ van der Linde in Harris to the bench, maybe)
4 Adriaan Fondse
5 Andries Bekker
6 Schalk Burger (c)
7 Francois Louw
8 Duane Vermeulen
9 Dewaldt Duvenage
10 Peter Grant
11 Bryan Habana
12 Juan de Jongh (Jean de Villiers back, the three Top SA midfielders will surely rotate to give Jac & Jean a break) We are belessed with midfield talent, tons and tons of them.
13 Jaque Fourie
14 Gio Aplon
15 Johan Pietersen (Conrad Jantjes back)

16 Deon Fourie
17 JC Kritzinger
18 Anton van Zyl
19 Pieter Louw
20 Ricky Januarie
21 Willem de Waal (he is gone and a dogfight between Watts, Cronje and van Aswegen)
22 Tim Whitehead (Juan de Jong)

The changes basically are two 2007 WC winners back , Pietersen and Willem de Waal. The good thing about the Stormers is that they have contracted (see the two teams above) nearly all their 2010 U21 CC winners. These talented young ones first step will be Vodacom/CC level in 2011 and will be ready to step up in 2012 when the WC cycle of overseas players strike. Maybe some of them will strike it lucky to get to S15 level this year, we'll see.

Dont think the Stormers squad of 30 will differ much from this:
15 Jantjes (Aplon backup)
Wings: Habana, Aplon, JJ Engelbrecht
13 Jac Fourie, Juan de Jong
12 Jean de Villiers (JdJ backup)
10 Grant, Cronje
9 Duvenhage, Januarie, Bolla
8 Duanne Vermeulen, (Pieter Louw backup)
7 Francois Louw, Pieter Louw
6 Schalk Burger, Ralp Koster
5 Andries Bekker, Anton van Zyl
4 Adriaan Fondse, de Kock Steenkamp
3 CJ vd Linde, Brok Harris
2 Liebenberg, Fourie
1 Blaauw, JC Krizinger, JD Moller

They showed some great attacking ability in their game against the Blues last year by throwing the ball around. I think it's only a matter of whether or not they are in that mindset.

Stormers had their first warmup on saturday at Riebeek Wes

DHL Stormers first warm-up games successful
- Saturday, January 15, 2011
In sweltering heat at PPC Park Riebeek West, 2 DHL Stormers Squad teams took on the Maties and then UCT respectively.

After a tough first half Team 1 ran out 38 -19 winners, whilst Team 2 managed 8 tries against UCT posting a 52-3 final score.

Both matches formed part of the DHL Stormers squad’s pre-season preparation phase for this year’s Super Rugby competition and the coaching staff had the opportunity to look at a number of youngsters in the group.

“A number of youngsters really put their hands up. It’s great to see some of the depth coming through” said head coach Allister Coetzee. “I was also really pleased with the guys conditioning. Despite the heat we were good at the collision and our strength and power showed. It was pleasing to see some of the technical and tactical things we have been working on, put into practice. All round I was happy with the outing.”

Around 3000 people came out to watch the games. “The support was amazing for so early in the season. We really appreciate it – a big thank you to the Faithful and to Alan Zondagh and his crew for all the arrangements” added the coach.

Next up is another game against Maties and then the Neo Africa Tri Series against the Sharks and Lions. A Newlands based fixture against partners Boland will mark the last warm up game before the season kicks off against the Lions on 26 February
The two youngster fatties taking the Smith Twins places Paul roser Steven Kitshoff and GalPil Malherbe had excellent matches, so did Lionel Cronje and Johann Sadie. The squad will be cut today and it will be interesting to see which youngsters will stay.

The Stormers warm ups really getting hot from this weekend with the start of the Neo Tri Series between the Stormers/Lions & Sharks. Last year the Force visited but they have been replaced by the Lions. The Stormers had three warm ups already against the two Varsity Cup finalists, Ikeys and Maties (twice) before this friday. They test there young stock during these warm ups and quite interesting to see Coetzee picking his close to best team for fridays clash against the Lions. A lot of young talent on the bench but the most important one is the pick of the two young fatties Steven Kitshoff and Frans Malherbe who was in school last year and replacing the Smith Twins who head to Australia. Kitshoff is a special talent and it will be interesting to see him and young van Aswegen against the Lion hard beard players. Elstadt in 7 also a good pick and a Bakkies type of grunting forward who played SA U20 two years ago. On the bench we see Johann Sadie who have been excellent last year and good to see him getting reward , surely this youngsters is the ones Coetzee and Rassie will try and bred for the next generation Stormers. All of themtasted victory in last years youth CCs.

Stormers team vs Lions:

Subs: Siyabonga Ntubeni, Steven Kitschoff, Frans Malherbe, Wimpie van der Walt, ^ Roux, Pieter Louw, Siya Kolisi, Nic Groom, Elgar Watts, Johann Sadie, Tim Whitehead, JJ Engelbrecht, Danie Poolman.

Injuries:
Anton van Zyl (shoulder) out for 6 weeks, Jaque Fourie (foot) Francois Louw & Dewaldt Duvenhage (hamstrings). CJ van der Linde maybe out , if he cant play young Steven Kitschoff will start with Blaauw from the bench.

More about Steven Kitshoff from Sport24 (Never knew the SA franchise had to get special permission to play young fatties on this level)

Stormers may start teen prop

Cape Town – A niggle to the Stormers’ new Springbok acquisition CJ van der Linde may well mean that the Cape side tackles the Lions with teenage prop Steven Kitshoff in Friday night’s friendly match at Newlands.

Kitshoff (18) was still at Paul Roos Gymnasium last year, but has made a huge impression with his scrumming in pre-season, and Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is ready to cut him loose in the Neo Africa Tri-series.

“We met all the safety and precautionary measures. We are aware of his age and had him tested according to SA Rugby requirements. His parents have also given their permission, and as coaches we’re satisfied with how he has performed at training,” said Coetzee.

“How can I doubt him if he bench presses 160kg? Steven himself is also positive about the challenge.”

Kitshoff’s involvement hinges on a decision Coetzee will make on Van der Linde during the course of Friday. Should the Bok star play, Kitshoff will be on the bench. If not, Kitshoff will start and Wicus Blaauw will be among the reserves.

“CJ has a lammie and there is no rush to start anyone. I won’t start players that are struggling with niggles. We need them for Super Rugby, and not friendly matches,” said Coetzee.

South African Rugby Union (Saru) communications chief Andy Colquhoun confirmed that the Stormers got permission to be able to use Kitshoff.

According to Boksmart regulations, an 18-year-old is not allowed to play in the front row at senior level unless he meets certain criteria. Western Province applied for a waiver (on Kitshoff) and got it,” said Colquhoun.

Apart from the tests that Kitshoff would have had to undergo, he would also have had to sign an indemnity form and his parents would have had to agree to his involvement.

He would also have needed clearance from a sports medical practitioner to certify that he is physically up to the challenge, as well as written permission from the team doctor and a sufficiently qualified coach.

Notwithstanding the presence of several young players in the Stormers’ squad of 28 for Friday night’s friendly match, the majority of the Cape side’s superstars will be in the starting line-up.

That includes Andries Bekker, Schalk Burger, Juan de Jongh, Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana and Gio Aplon.

The only Stormer unlikely to be fit for the start of this year’s Super Rugby series is lock Anton van Zyl.

“Anton dislocated his shoulder after falling on it and will be out for five to six weeks,” said Coetzee.

Flank Francois Louw and scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage are both struggling with hamstring injuries, but Coetzee expects they will be fit in two weeks’ time.

Springbok centre Jaque Fourie is also progressing well with his recovery from injury and should be in the Stormers’ squad for their first league match against the Lions.

Apart from Kitshoff, Coetzee opted for other youngsters such as Siyabonga Ntubeni, Frans Malherbe, Wimpie van der Walt, Quinn Roux, Siya Kolisi, Nic Groom, Johann Sadie and Danie Poolman as substitutes.

Any news on how the Lions game went? No highlights on youtube.

EDIT: New jersey is disgusting... we'll never win the S15 in that.

You give to much credit to the Sharks?

Regarding the new jersey. As long as I see hoops I am happy, even more happy if I see a bit of Boland in the jersey. At least it have the caracters of the provinces within the franchis which we havent saw in the past, can make peace with the sponsor yellow, they give the cash to provide the players.

What's the boland part of it? The yellow from the sponsor logo? :/

And do you know anywhere I can watch highlights from the trial games?
