In South Africa it's another insulting name for a Afrikaaner. On par with Dutchman. Didn't know it was used to describe peodophiles. My apologies in case any of the Aussies thought I was using it in that manner.Aussie D said:Rusty, do you guys have a different meaning to rockspider than us? (In Oz a rockspider is someone who has sex with children)

Pretty sure that Boer part dominate the rest. :thumbrustycruiser said:Hell, I am half a boer, half a soutie, and half American. Add it up and you have one big mess.
This nickname thing is always a interesting thing and me and the ref of the forum (Lind) had a good open discussion about it. I use the Convict name for the Aussies and it seem to offend them. Never mend it that way but myself never have a problem with the nick thing. We grow up with it and you can call me anything from rockspider, Jaapie (still cant figure out why they use this one or Yarpie like some Ferners do), white Boer, dutchman, Blood sausage (the Paarl Gym one) or whatever. The one I dont like is mountain goat ,only because it comes from a arsehole like Keo.rustycruiser said:In South Africa it's another insulting name for a Afrikaaner. On par with Dutchman. Sorry so a shark with no bite is a guppie?Aussie D said:So why do they call Afrikaners rockspiders by the way?
I think guppies are what we call Kwazulu Natal and their supporters as in a type of shark with no bite (though I wouldn't want to be bitten by one).
PB - I'm surprised Keo's site is still going aunless it has improved in the last 5 years. I remember going there years ago as I didn't know of any other forums and heard it mentioned on rugbyheaven. It was there that I learned about the existence of the fern.

:lmao: Strange they call you lot that, for some reason some Saffers call the Aus cricketers that.MajorlyRagerly said:PaarlBok said:I dont read much of his posts, what do the Aussies call the Kiwis?cheezel said:Naza demonstrated the kiwi nickname quite well in another topic
Sheep Shaggers would be the most common term I've heard... although that's a bit dated now since we've moved to be stronger in the dairy industry.... I guess cows just don't have the same appeal.
PaarlBok said:The other nick the Durbs souties dont like is the Guppie one. For some reason they dont like it one bit. Maybe when Billy gets back he can explain where the Guppie name come from. Billy is a Westville boytjie, also Boer with a very smooth english on him.
Hell I still blame my ou toppie about the english, he refuse point blank anything about Pom in our house, walk out the door when God save the Queen played before tests and refuse to speak it. Took me flippen ages to realise language is only a communication method and not a war, like they had in their day.
Now the english have put a spell on me with my girl dropping her english one in her first year at Maties.
Well you started it, get on with it tom carter!waratahjesus said:well this thread is epic isnt it, needs more tom carter and less south africans!

Still want to learn Xhosa at some stage. Know a few Sotho words mostly the swear ones. Always good when you start talking to a Xhosa/Sotho/Zulu in their own language, sure they appreciate it. The problem is when you learn it you have to talk it a lot. Probably the reason why I was for such a long time the only one understanding Snor's Paarl language. :BillyWebb said:PaarlBok said:The other nick the Durbs souties dont like is the Guppie one. Yup, as Rusty said, the Guppie nickname was given to the Sharks rugby team - probably in the days when Kevin Putt was coach and the team had no bite.
A Guppie is a tiny fish.... bit like a goldfish, only smaller.
As Paarl says, I am a Westville (In Kwa-Zulu Natal, also known as the Last British Outpost) boy - Afrikaans family, but went to an English scool from aged 10.
So I guess the official Saffa description for me is an Anglicized Dutchman :lmao:
Paarl will attest to the fact that my Afrikaans these days is spoken (and at times mangled) with an English accent - much to the amusement of many of my extended family members.

Not as funny as your "off to dinner with Mandela" comment.... probably because I don't get it.
Tom Carter?
