On paper at least it seems like the Canes should be cruising this, especially in the backs.

Poor Fakatava, finally gets a start and he's been a bit wobbly

Bit of a shite-fest, innit? Mind you, neither of these teams are the Reigning Trans Tasman Champions, are they, so perhaps not that unexpected.

That was interesting when Ardie said they getting Omicron running through team. I wondered why Logan Henry was there as replacement 9, he apparently got called down from Palmerston North today. I didn't really recognise either of the hookers, think the first one may of been on bench last few weeks?
Anyway a painful game , don't think I would be recommending anyone watch replays!

Finger's crossed that the Covid in Canes team doesn't spread, they got MP (Moana Pasifika) next week, and those poor buggers don't need to lose another game!

It's being reported that RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck)'s shoulder injury is serious, as is Plummer's.

Had a morbid feeling all offseason that RTSaviour would offer a couple of glimpses in his first match then suffer a career-ending injury.

It's The Loss Bleus way.

Plummer too?

Oh well.

Zarn to FB, Beaudy and Perofuture to platoon at 1st 5.

I'd keep Perofeta at 15 and have Zarn on the bench - to me this is the time to start giving Zarn some minutes at 10 off the bench.
Yep I have said before and still believe that Zarn has a future at 10, reckon him on bench sounds bloody good idea.

So the only sensible options at 12 would be Tele'a or Clarke. They'll likely put Tele'a there, but, personally, I want to see Clarke given a go. IIRC he has a desire to shift into the midfield, and now seems like a pretty good opportunity to give him a sneaky go.

This is, of course, assuming they don't just go all in with something bonkers like sticking Akira or Sotutu there. Though I would pay good money to see either there because it's either a complete no holds barred line/jailbreak time or silky smooth skip passing (of Rieko) time.

You are forgetting T Tua. He's played 12 for Northland and looked sharp.

Evans is another option but probably a year too soon.

Worse yet. It'll be diagnosed as a career ending injury by three dozen different medical experts and at least four quacks. The Blues will let him go. Those plucky underdogs in Cheechee will give him a one year contract. He'll miraculously recover. Then the Mo'unga + RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) + Jordan axis of evil will utterly obliterate everyone.

CC would be really interesting there. Certainly built like a centre.

Although with the modern game the way it is, weirdly, I think one of his key attributes on the wing is his ability to reel in contestable bombs. Fantastic hands.

"It takes time to learn to play centre". Yeah, well, Rieko's been given plenty of time there and still hasnt shown anything in the way of understanding anything about the position. His quickness bails him out of his defensive misreads and on attack he's not doing anyone outside him any favours at all.

Getting idiotic now. I was gung ho for lockdowns 3 years ago but now it's "we have a cold virus variant that we have all been vaccinated against in our environment. Call everything off, close everything down, and calmly proceed to your underground isolation bunkers. Again".

Well you can't have a team training with it, will lose the whole squad. I understand how many people know miles more than the Drs or whoever, but you can't keep training and spread it through squad as noone will be fit to play!

No-one's saying it but I have a sneaky feeling that NZR's (now rescinded) vax mandate wrt community rugby didn't apply to the pro game & that a significant number of players aren't vaxxed.
