Has anyone been to any specialised coaching provided by their local Union? I'm referring to coaching outside of rep teams or Foundation/Level 1/Level 2. If yes, what were they, how ere they run and who ran them?
Yesterday I went to the inaugural Halfback clinic run by the Rebels. Nick Ryan, Sam Cordingly and Ricky Dumigan were the presenters. It was great to finally have these types of forums available in Melbourne. The Rebels shouls be applauded for this initiative. I'm hoping they continue with this by holding clinics on other positions such as fly half/inside backs, back three, back row, front row, goal kicking, etc.
Pros:
- Former Wallaby presenter - instant credibility
- Variety of topics covered
Cons:
- Varied ages and abilities - does a coach need to attend the same sessions as a 13 year old?
- 3 hours was perhaps not enough
- Too many participants to receive direct instruction/feedback
- S&C component could have been covered in an email or on a handout
- no literature to take home
- not quite enough depth on each session
I know it looks like I'm getting stuck into the session. I think this is constructive criticism and if I'm paying $75 to attend, I'm entitled to comment.
