This has substituted the ex ARS comp. WA really streets ahead now and reaping the benefits of having a S14 side. Will Vics domestic comp benefit as well?

Any standout players? I know some fellows with the Vic U20 team.

I think it's a certainty that with Super rugby sides in place we can see Vic and WA get to a similar level of quality player production/ competitiveness as the ACT in the next 5-10 years.

Absolutely, but that doesn't mean that there isn't talent that can be found in the higher age groups.

I mean Grey for Eastern Suburbs, the number 8 for Sydney Uni Colts (couldn't even try to spell his game) and Lealiifano are all examples of the talent that does come through the Vic system.

What surprises me about this tournament and the U16s is how competitive SA is becoming. If I were the Rebs I'd be trying to claim them as part of my catchment area ASAP.

Without question yes. Having top class footy in your state will raise the standard of the grass roots.

I presume you mean Jack De Guingand, en_force_er. He is very talented but I didn't realise he was Mexican.

As mentioned aboe WA produced encouraging results at recent U16's tournament and it will be reasonable to believe that with a few years of the Rebels especially if the work hard on development that they will soon catch up.

Victoria probably has more Islanders then any other state, expect maybe Qld.

It's just setting up pathways to make sure anyone with talent is well coached rather then just waiting till they are 17, 18, 19 and hoping someone is handy.

Its a concept we would struggle with(playing for the Vics) but in all honesty some have travelled to Sydney, maybe getting a gig in the Rebels academy would be more attractive.
What I would like to see is the Rebels strengthening the local Vic club competition and players dropping back into this when S15 duties finish. It hasnt really worked in WA although fringe players has brought the level up.
If this does happen then these state games will really be one sided to WA/Vic. Maybe SA, NT and Tas will compete in their own pool although SA/Vic have always had cross border competition from u12s up.

Maybe if they had cleverly called the Rebels the Southern States Rebels or something and based them out of Melbourne with 1 Adelaide game a year.

However, they aren't the Southern States Rebels or even the Victorian Rebels, no they are the Melbourne Rebels. Terrible if you ask me.

Realistically, if the chance of a Super Rugby team being eventually established in South Australia were to eventuate exactly how long down the track would SA Rugby be ready?

I think South Australia would have to have a surprise population boom for the ARU to even fathom sending a Super team their.

Then again, a surprise population boom would unlikely be in a rugby demographic so even then I don't like your chances.

SA's best hope of good rugby is the ARC or ARS returning.

The buggers manage to run our only IRB 7's tournament, and seem to have a reasonable turnout at the games.

Unfortunately I have never managed to get off the couch to get down there.

Does anyone know if the crowds are all interstaters or are they SA locals?

If the latter , it would suggest that there is some form of grass roots support for HeavensGame there.

I SA is a state the ARU should be really looking to develop. As has been mentioned they do draw reasonably good crowds to the 7s. It appears to be more about support and getting out in the community and schools to develop at the very least awareness of the game. I would like to see the ARS resurrected and really pushed in the minnow states.
